1. Everyone In Wyoming Looks Like They’ve Stepped Out Of A Stetson Commercial

Though some people try to deny it, cowboy culture is a big part of Wyoming tradition. Sure, everyone might not be a cowboy, but cowboy boots and cowboy hats stay in fashion every season and every year. Regionally, the state can be broken down into the cowboys, the miners, the roughnecks, and the ranchers, but a trip down any city street will have an out-of-towner wondering if they somehow ended up in Texas.

2. Wyoming Doesn’t Grow No Couch Potatoes

Wyomingites will use almost any excuse they can to get outside, whether it’s hunting, hiking, skiing, fishing, ATVing… the list goes on. One of the benefits of having so much space with so few people is that the state of Wyoming is a nature lover’s playground with endless opportunities for exploration. As it’s also home to the world renowned Yellowstone National Park and ski resorts like Jackson Hole, there’s no question that Wyoming is one of the best places to get outside in the country.

3. Every Wyomingites Knows What A “Greenie” Is And Would Prefer They Just Stay Home

Visitors to Wyoming, be warned, you better not be a Coloradoan. No one in Wyoming is particularly fond of seeing the green Colorado license plates crossing the border into their state. This rivalry seems to be spurred on from several differences between the two states’ residents including political leanings and the jumps in property value with new landowners. More recently, the trafficking of Colorado’s legal marijuana has led to an increase in friction between Wyoming law enforcement and the greenies. But as far as every Wyomingite is concerned, feel free to visit for a day or two, but don’t overstay your welcome.

4. Wyomingites Have Never Met A Meat They Didn’t Want To Eat

It shouldn’t come with much surprise that in a land full of frontiers and cowboys, meat is a key component of everyone’s diet. With locally made beef jerky everywhere you turn, plenty of bison to go around, and enough venison and fish to feed an army, the most difficult part of cooking dinner in Wyoming is deciding what type of locally sourced protein will become the main dish.

5. To Wyomingites There Are Only Two Types Of People: RepubliCANS and RepubliCANTS

Wyoming has what is essentially a one party system, Republican. In recent years, roughly 70 percent of the population has identified with that side of politics. The conservative, right wing presence is so strong, that often times the few liberal residents won’t register Democrat, simply because they know there’s no chance of them winning the final vote. Wyoming is one place where it’s safe to talk about politics at a party, as long as you’re supporting the Grand Old Party.

6. Wyomingites Are Practically Born In The Saddle

While people might not be riding their horses to school anymore, it’s impossible to pretend that everyone doesn’t still loving riding in Wyoming. With so much wide open space and the beautiful scenery, it’s one of the best places to do it in the country. And one can’t mention horse riding without mentioning the rodeo. Instead of cheering for a sports team that’s out of state and miles away, a lot of Wyomingites prefer to cheer on their favorite hometown cowboy as he hangs on for dear life.

7. Wyomingites Always Come Prepared

Look in any Wyomingites’ trunk, there’s a good chance it’s stocked full of enough supplies to help them survive the zombie apocalypse. While it may look like they’re on their way for a camping trip, this is really just smart planning during the winter months. Travelling long distances in Wyoming during the winter can be dangerous. But everyone in the state grows up being taught how to survive during the winter months that tend to make 40 degrees seem like shorts weather.

8. Wyomingites Will Drink To That (“That” Is Pretty Much Anything)

Folks in Wyoming love a good drink, which is why they are always down to grab swig of some good Wyoming whiskey at the local bar—where they are likely to know most of the people there, too.

9. Folks In Wyoming Think The Second Amendment Is First

Ranking No. 1 in the country for gun ownership, around 60 percent of the residents own a gun, these stats not taking into account that many individuals have a different gun for each day of the week. A product of the cowboy lifestyle coupled with lax gun laws, a sidearm is another irreplaceable fashion accessory that really only works in Wyoming.

10. Folks In Wyoming Never Have To Ask For More “Me Time”

Wyoming is a huge state, one of the largest in the nation, yet somehow it is also the least populous state in the country as well, with fewer than 600,000 residents. This means that there are less than 6 people per each square mile. Compared with New Jersey’s 1,210 people per square mile and it’s easy to see that Wyoming is pretty unique among the states. Communities are small, tight knit groups of people working together to survive. Everyone knows everyone and everyone is considered family. With huge stretches of uninhabited, beautiful land, and hardly enough people to go around, life is a bit simpler in Wyoming, but Wyomingites wouldn’t have it any other way.
