Arlington is one of Riverside, California’s oldest neighborhoods, yet it still maintains its 19th century village charm only found in this part of Southern California. Over the years, renovations have been made to this historically significant community including providing more dining and shopping opportunities while still preserving the architectural diversity of the city. Purchasing a home in Arlington Riverside CA, means you will be moving to an area that has plenty of amenities from schools and parks to grocery stores and shopping centers. It is the second most walkable community in the city of Riverside, and it’s only six miles from downtown. The residential streets are lined with rustic, single-family homes, condominiums and apartment buildings. About 70 percent of residences are owned, although there is a high percentage of residents who rent. Once known as “the city within a city,” Arlington was founded in 1875. In 1883, it combined with the Riverside colony to become the 39-square-mile city of Riverside. However, this quaint community grew to its present-day size after acquiring two annexations from the city in 1961 and 1964. In 1881, when the Arlington branch of the U.S. Postal Service opened, this formerly unincorporated land’s name was changed to Arlington Place. In 1900, through a vote of the residents, it was changed back to Arlington.
