Cottonwood Art Festival, Huffhines Art Trails, Wildflower! Arts and Music Festival... the list goes on and on. Richardson loves to host festivals and residents love to attend. Everything is an occasion for a party!
Dim sum restaurants and Asian grocery stores abound in Richardson and regardless of nationality, residents and non-residents alike flock to these delicious Asian food destinations. Maybe it is time for a China tour agency to open its doors in town to help locals find their way to the eating Mecca of the East.
Residents and visitors alike can''t seem to get enough of the great outdoors in Richardson, and the city provides over 40 miles of trails and walkways including the Galatyn Woodland Preserve, Breckinridge Park and the Spring Creek Nature Area.
Richardson is not a huge place, but the art scene here is certainly larger than life. The city is home to the Symphony Orchestra, the Richardson Community Band, Richardson Theatre Centre, Repertory Company Theatre, Chamber Music International, Visual Art Society, and several dance groups, ballet and more. Plus, it offers the Galatyn Park Urban Center and the Charles W. Eisemann Center for Performing Arts. Big city culture in a tight-knit community.
Richardson is home to the University of Texas, Dallas and has a quaint college town feel with big city connections. The University''''s 500 acre campus serves more than 12,000 students and the U.S. News and World Report ranked it 142 in the 2014 edition of Best Colleges.
Richardson is home to both Sherrill Park Golf Course and Canyon Creek Country Club. Sherrill is ranked among Texas'''' Top 100 golf courses and is number four for low to mid-priced courses. It features two 18-hole courses and operates year-round. Canyon Creek boasts an 18-hole golf course designed by Press Maxwell, three swimming pools, fourteen outdoor tennis courts, and four indoor tennis courts. Not too shabby for a small town.
OK. Not exactly. But they do hold the Corporate Challenge every year, an Olympic style competition put on by Richardson Parks & Recreation Department. The event is comprised of up to twenty-five athletic and non-athletic events and is held from late August through early October. Forty area businesses recruit employees, spouses, and retirees to compete. Competition events include, softball, volleyball, billiards, golf, and the like. The event raises much-needed funds for the Special Olympics.
There are plenty of places in Richardson where you can get a good burger and you''ll love Twisted Root Burger Co., Olive Burger, Del''s Charcoal Burgers, Haystack Burgers & Barley, and Burger Island--just to name a few.
Richardson High School boasts a Homecoming Parade that rivals city and town parades across the US. The event includes floats, marching bands, glitzy convertibles, local dignitaries, homecoming queens, cheerleaders... you get the idea. The theme for the 2013 parade was "Eagles Through the Decades", the perfect theme for a parade whose history dates back 50 plus years. And here''s an interesting fact: the parade gets more than 100 RHS and community parade entries and each one donates packages of underwear for the Richardson ISD Clothes Closet.
Richardson is the Telecom Corridor and is home to AT&T, Metro PCS, Cisco, Ericsson, Fujitsu, Samsung, Rockwell Collins, Verizon, and many others. These kinds of job opportunities might explain why Richardson so often makes the various "Best Places to Live" lists.
