1. Provoans Live For Playing Outdoors

The beautiful views and endless abundance of things to do may be why Provoans like to spend a lot of their time outdoors. There are great trails for biking, running, walking, and just gabbing with the girls. The Provo River is packed with fishermen come fishing season. And Provoans love to get lost in the Timpanagos Cave National Monument with its limestone caverns.

2. Provans Are Total Taco Snobs

In fact, loving ethnic food is almost like another religion here. Even the mayor jumps on the bandwagon. He recently embarked on a taco crawl for Cinco de Mayo where he went around tasting tacos from various Mexican restaurants, of which there are several. And let’s not forget Festival Latinoamericano. Provoans hold this three-day event every year in honor of and love for all things Latin American. You can easily eat your weight in tacos, tamales, and burritos.

3. When Provoans Say The Line “Five Deep” They Aren't Talking About A Club

Nope, they’re talking about the lines at ice cream emporiums. It may be the only time they can be rude, often cutting other drivers off in the roads and parking lots to get to that sweet scoop just a little bit quicker.

4. Provoans Like To Get High…

…In hot air balloons, during America’s Freedom Festival, where more than 25,000 people come out to watch more than 20 brightly hued balloons take flight. This event is listed as one of the top 20 hot air balloon events in the U.S. Provoans figured out a long time ago that the best way to take in the Utah sights is from up above. There are also a number of hot air balloon touring companies that will take you high up for hire.

5. Provoans Have A Whole Lot Of Faith

Provo has been ranked as the most religious city in America by Gallup, which is no surprise when you consider that 75 percent of Provoans are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which also operates Brigham Young University. The city was also recently ranked by a Gallup survey as No. 1 place for overall well being in the U.S. Hmm, I wonder if there’s a connection?

6. Provans All Laugh At Other City’s Download Speeds

Provo was the third U.S. city to have Google Fiber, which offers connection speeds of up to 100 times faster than normal broadband speeds. The city purchased an existing city-owned fiber optic network in order to get in the lead for speed. And Provo was recently ranked as the 11th best place in the nation for tech start-ups.

7. Provoans Have A Passion And Pedigree For Singing And Dancing

Perhaps the most famous Mormon family to date is the Osmond bunch, all of whom hail from the Provo area. The Osmonds have been singing and dancing their way into American hearts for decades. They started out as kids singing barbershop music, evolving into teen icons and later, adult stars. They credit their religious values (they are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) and Provoan sensibility with their musical success.

8. Everyone In Provo’s Other Car Is A Paddleboard

Come spring and summer, you can’t keep Provoans off the water. With mild temperatures, sun-kissed afternoons, and endless mountain views, Utah Lake is the ideal spot to while away your day. Provoans flock to the lake with their sailboats, canoes, inner tubes, and paddleboards. Nothing beats a day spent outside in the sun and warmth.

9. People Here Prefer Listening To Music Outside

The Rooftop Concert Series is held each year on the first Friday of every month from May–October. It’s on the third level of the Provo Town Square Parking Terrace, under a starry night sky. And best of all, it’s free. Provoans love to pack in for the shows, which feature local and regional acts (Imagine Dragons and Neon Trees have played there). Afterwards they flock to Restaurant Row to grab some grub and keep the party going strong.

10. Everyone Feels Right At Home In Provo

Provo is easily one of the best places for young people and families alike to live. The city was listed as a great place to retire by “Where To Retire Magazine,” and as a cultural hub by “National Geographic.” It also topped “Forbes’” list as one of the top ten places to raise a family, and on a separate top ten “Forbes” list for being one of the best places to do business. With options like these, is it any wonder why Provo is called Happy Valley? Did we miss anything? Tell us what you think is unique about Provo in the comments below!
