History of Litchfield Park

The Litchfield Park area was settled decades ago, but it was not until 1910 that the first land claims were first filed. The Kriegbaums, a family from California, purchased 640 acres, including the land that today is the downtown area of the city. Originally, these settlers wanted to develop this area into citrus groves, but Paul W. Litchfield purchased 16,000 acres in 191 for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, which included the land claims of those first settlers. The company wanted to help with the war effort by growing Egyptian long staple cotton, which they used to reinforce both truck and automobile tires.

Paul Litchfield loved the area and turned Litchfield Ranch into the headquarters for what would eventually become Goodyear Farms. This brought hundreds of jobs to the area, and in 1926, this company town was named Litchfield Park. Finally, in 1987, the 3.3 square mile city was first incorporated. The city continues to flourish today and in 2009, the Rancho La Loma Homestead was gifted to the city by the Litchfield Family to help remind residents of the sense of home that comes from a long history.
