When moving your family to the Phoenix area, it's just as important to consider the quality of the schools the in neighborhood as it is to look at the homes themselves. Taking the time to consider your children's schools before you purchase your home is an investment in their future that you won't regret, even when your housing needs change and grow. Glendale schools are typically rated higher than many other Phoenix districts, with higher-than-nationwide college entrance exam scores and lower dropout rates, and up-to-date facilities that facilitate learning. That makes Glendale an attractive place for families to settle, whether you have preschoolers or high-school-aged children. Movoto Real Estate can help you find the perfect home that'll keep your family near the best schools in the Phoenix area.

School Overview

Greenway High School Phoenix became part of the Glendale school system in 1975. The school was named after John Campbell Greenway, a mining engineer, soldier, and U.S. senator with deep ties to the state of Arizona. Glendale has grown since the '70s, and so has Greenway. Since it was established, the school has grown to accommodate over 1,500 students, partially thanks to a large classroom expansion project completed in 2012, funded by a generous 2011 bond. The Arizona Department of Transportation gives Greenway an "A" rating, and it was listed among U.S. News and World Report's Best High Schools in the Nation. Greenway offers AP classes in mathematics, language arts, biology, government, U.S.history, and world history; because of its focus on practical college prep, it was recognized among the College Board's 2013 National Advanced Placement Districts of the Year.

What Parents Are Saying

"Wow! You can really feel the spirit!" remarked one parent reviewing Greenway High School, and many other reviewers echo the sentiment: Greenway's school spirit really is second to none among Phoenix schools. Parents also cite involved, caring teachers and incredibly well-organized extracurricular activities as keys to keeping that spirit alive. "The teachers are absolutely wonderful in communicating with parents," another parent said. A wide variety of on-point extracurricular programs from band to theater to ROTC also give students opportunities to expand their horizons in ways that go far beyond traditional academics. Greenway doesn't slack when it comes to traditional academics, though. Parents call it a "solid structured school" with "high student success rates." That's no small task when it comes to a student body as diverse and multitalented as Greenway's. And those parent testimonials are backed by evidence. According to GreatSchools.com, a higher percentage of Greenway graduates are ready for college than Arizona graduates as a whole, and impressive reading, writing, and math proficiency indicate that Greenway graduates are well prepared for college or wherever life takes them.
