History of Anthem

The Anthem community started back in the 1990's when Del Webb purchased the property in the North Valley. The goal was to create a multi-generational, master-planned community that was surrounded by mountain views, desert beauty, and rich with excellent amenities for people of every age. Del Webb bought more than 5,000 acres and started this development project in 1992. Unfortunately, around 1,000 acres of land was destroyed by a brush fire, halting the project.

Ground on this community, which was re-christened with the name Anthem, was first broken in 1998. Phil Dion, who was the Chairman of the Del Webb Board at the time, had a vision to create a community that was different from any other, and his vision came true. Within the first couple weeks of sales, 361 families would purchase homes in Anthem. The community continued to develop and grow, adding schools, amenities, and special events.

In 2011, a beautiful memorial was built for veterans in Community Park, known as the Anthem Veterans Memorial. Locals and visitors often visit the memorial to pay their respects to current military members and those who have served in the past.
