Located in the Northeastern corner of Orange County, California, Yorba Linda is an affluent community that is nearby the larger cities of Santa Ana (to the south) and downtown Los Angeles (to the west). The town may be best known in popular culture as the birthplace of Richard Nixon, but the area has many other things to offer beyond that footnote in modern American history. Before buying a home in Yorba Linda, there are a few things you should know to make sure it is the ideal area for you to live and spend time.

Like many of the people who live in Southern California, Yorba Linda residents are very conscious about their health, outward appearance and overall fitness. So it’s not surprising there are full service gyms throughout the area and in surrounding communities where members can go to get a full body work out in. However, due to the fact that Yorba Linda is bordered on it’s north and eastern sides by the beautiful Chino Hills State Park which is part of the larger Sleepy Hollow area, there are no shortage of hiking trails and other areas where more adventurous and fit Yorba Linda residents can visit to stay in shape. Weir Canyon Wilderness Park and Oak Canyon Nature Center offer numerous trail heads for all levels of hiker, walker or outdoor all terrain runner, immersing you in nature and often offering beautiful views of the surrounding Southern California countryside.

As Yorba Linda is predominantly larger homes with some land around them and a median household income that is over $125,000 today—which is one of the highest in the United States—many people living here are either retired or in positions where they don’t need to commute to the office very often. However, there are still a number of major companies based in Yorba Linda that provide jobs for many residents on the local level. The medical technology company CareFusion, based out of San Diego, has offices in Yorba Linda and is the community’s largest employer, with nearly 400 employees. Swiss-based dental implant manufacturer Nobel Biocare also has their US offices in Yorba Linda, employing nearly 300 employees. Other large employers include big box stores like Best Buy, Kohls and Costco, serving the residents of the area with products that most in these larger Orange County communities need.

Due to the act that the area was both controlled by the Spanish and Mexican governments when it was first set up as a rancho in the 19th Century and that it was a major agricultural area for Southern California in the early 20th Century, this has influenced the types of homes and their architecture in Yorba Linda. Many spacious one story California ranch style homes can be found in Yorba Linda, as can many Spanish style homes with red tile roofs and stucco siding. Of course, there are no shortage of modern homes in Yorba Linda either, many with large driveways, spacious lots and pools in their backyards. Many of these types of homes have four to five bedrooms and bathrooms and are well over 2,000 square feet inside. While many of the newer and nicer homes of this size are selling for upwards of $1.25 million dollars, there are plenty of excellent homes with land and great bones which can be found in the Yorba Linda area for under a million, allowing you to remodel your own Southern California dream home.
Yorba Linda is a nice suburb, so it may seem like there is a limited amount of entertainment within it—however, plenty can be found if you know where to look. There’s a number of bars and restaurants in the Yorba Linda area which have live music on a regular basis, adding a new level of enjoyment and entertainment to a meal or a couple drinks at a local watering hole. The music often reflects the establishment it is being played in. The dive bar the Canyon Inn often has good small local bands; the excellent restaurant Cha Cha’s Latin Kitchen has live Latin American music on the weekends; The Continental Room has DJs playing regularly for it’s club goers. If heading out of Yorba Linda is more your speed, there are countless things to do that are a short drive away. With the family, heading to Anaheim is always a good idea, as there’s Disnerland and numerous professional sports stadiums. The same can be said about downtown Los Angeles, which is a thirty minute drive from Yorba Linda, without traffic.
If you want a nice, safe community with large homes that is outside the major city centers of California, Yorba Linda is a great place to buy a home.
