Despite the major industries in Garden Grove being corporations for aeronautics, Garden Grove began as a rural crossroads in Southern California, known for it’s large production of chili peppers, oranges, walnuts and, perhaps most notably, strawberries. This gives some insight into how the community got it’s name in the first place. After an earthquake destroyed the center of the town in 1933 and the city boomed after World War II, Garden Grove became incorporated by the mid-1950's as a suburb of Los Angeles. After the Vietnam War and fall of Saigon, Garden Grove became home to a large number of Vietnamese-American immigrants, who are still the majority of the area’s Asian population today.
