Though many times people dread the arrival of this counterculture in their community, Oregon embraces it. Granted, not everyone in the state isn’t a hipster, but spend time in any large Oregon city and you’ll realize that the number of moustaches, skinny jeans, and vintage wear tends to be higher per capita than any other place.

2. Everyone In Oregon Is Insanely Passionate About The Great Outdoors

A side effect of living in one of the most beautiful states, Oregonians love spending time outside, whether it’s hiking, biking, or just basking in the Oregon sun. Whether it means climbing to the top of Mt. Hood or getting wet at the Columbia River Gorge, a true Oregonian can’t stay pent up inside for long.

3. Oregonians Could Survive On Local Microbrews, Alone

It’s no surprise that in a state with over 170 breweries, craft beer is a pretty big deal. In fact, it’s so huge that the local beer industry alone contributes nearly $3 billion to Oregon’s economy, employing 29,000 people. Oregonians aren’t just great at making beer, they’re great at drinking it, too. In 2013 alone, Oregonians slurped up 2.803 million barrels of beer, with roughly one-in-five of those barrels coming from the state. That’s a pint of beer every other day per each Oregonian!

4. Wait… Make That Beer And Coffee, Alone

If an Oregonian doesn’t have a beer in their hand, there’s a good chance there’s a coffee in its place. Not only is it great for getting an Oregonian up and going for an early morning hike or for helping them get rid of a lingering hangover from the night before.

5. Everyone In Oregon Has A Raging Case Of Puppy Love

Oregonians give a whole new meaning to the term “man’s best friend,” with some of the highest dog ownership rates in the country. And these furry sidekicks go everywhere, because local businesses to cater to these canine lovers, as tons of cafes, markets, and even pubs are dog friendly.

6. Californians, Yeah They Can Stay Right Where They Are

Oregonians are a warm and friendly people, welcoming of everyone—except their neighbors to the south. As far as folks in the Beaver State are concerned, Californians should keep their property price raising selves south of Keno, thank you very much.

7. Oregonians Are Total Local Produce Snobs

Ample amounts of farmers markets and natural grocers make it easy for Oregonians to feast like royalty whether they’re cooking at home or hitting up a local spot. This group of extremely health conscious foodies don’t cut corners when it comes to dining, making Oregon one of the best places to find natural and organic foods in the country.

8. Folks In Oregon Think Two > Than Four…. Wheels

While Portland has been on the list of most bike-friendly cities in the nation for quite some time, the entire state is making huge leaps to follow suit. The entire state is becoming a biker’s paradise, finally stealing the third place spot on the podium in the “League of American Bicyclists” national state-by-state rankings. With tons of statewide laws protecting cyclists on the road as well as huge funding programs working to improve the infrastructure, it’s no surprise that Oregon has one of the highest bike commuter rates in the country.

9. City Oregonians Are Liberal—Country Oregonians Are Not

Oregon politics almost always go blue, though often by smaller margins than one might think. While the 47 percent of the state population living in the Portland metro area tends to identify with being liberal or libertarian, the conservative rural population helps to even voting out. Still, on social issues like same-sex marriage, marijuana use, and public health care, Oregonians lean strongly left.

10. In Oregon Their Love For Ducks Football Is Oh-So Mighty

There may be no pro football team in The Beaver State but Oregonians couldn’t care less—who needs the NFL when they have the Oregon Ducks! Known for their insanely awesome fan base and crazy mascot, in recent years the Ducks have been great for the program as they’ve maintained their role as a top contender in the league. But as any Ducks fan will tell you, the real reason they bleed green and yellow has a little to do with the great tailgating, known near and far as one of the best parties in the country.

11. People In Oregon Really Do Care About The Environment

Oregon is of the most environmentally friendly states in the country, over 60 percent of all energy consumed in Oregon comes from alternative sources. Needless to say, everyone in Oregon is very environmentally conscious, willing to do what it takes to protect the beautiful state they live in. So, don’t get caught tossing your trash out of the car window if you’re driving through.

12. Oregonians Are Under The Spell Of Some Pretty Weird (And Delicious) Doughnuts

While some Oregonians will claim it’s too touristy for their taste, everyone in the state as a secret soft spot for Voodoo Doughnuts. If they didn’t, their crazy pastry combinations wouldn’t sell at over 20,000 doughnuts every day, over 7 million doughnuts a year. With options ranging from doughnuts topped with bacon to bubble gum, these unique innovations are unlike anything else on the planet.

13. Oregonians Are Massively Proud Of Being Oregonians

There’s nothing that an Oregonian feels more passionate about than protecting what’s theirs. Recently, people around the nation have started to discover how amazing the Beaver State is and have been flocking towards its borders in droves. While Oregonians don’t mind the occasional tourist, they don’t want the place they love to start changing as out-of-towners flood their streets. It’s not that Oregonians hate the rest of the country, they just know that their state is the best place in America to be and they want to make sure it continues to be the Oregon that they grew up loving.
