Yeah, what's the big deal with the one in Greece, anyway? It's just a hot mess! Ours is so much nicer, more colorful, and all the statues still have their bits and pieces intact. And we've even got a fountain; theirs dried up, like, thousands of years ago.

Seriously, they litter the ground here like cigarette butts do in other towns. This is Music City, after all, and everyone and her brother is in a band, or more like three or four. Recent arrivals still have stars (or at least dollar signs) in their eyes, but everyone eventually figures out that the odds of making it big in the music biz are astronomically low, so you'd better be in it for love alone.

The name of this street near Music Row is another trap to catch the unwary newbie. The uninitiated tend to pronounce Demonbreun as if it were some type of satanic pickle juice, but locals know it was named for a long-dead fur trapper whose last name was pronounced more like “Da-MUN-bree-un.”

Old Hickory Boulevard is a complete bafflement to those newly arrived in Nashville. Why are there four different exits for it, and why do you keep running into it all over town? And why does it keep changing route numbers? Ha, it's all part of a clever hazing ritual. If you can figure it out, you get to stay. If you're still confused after your first six months, they ship you back to Cali.

This Nashville specialty is marinated in a secret mix of something like cayenne, gunpowder and Satan's saliva, and has been known to blow the heads off of unsuspecting out-of-towners.

The pulled pork is awesome, the fried chicken's divine, but the biscuits...yes, they really do live up to their rep. Fluffiest you've ever tasted, and even worth the hassle of eating at a place all the tourists know about. (Thanks a bunch, Food Channel.)

The country music industry may promote good old fashioned values, which have been pretty much trademarked by the Republican party, but the city's residents tend to vote a solid Democrat ticket. In the 2012 presidential election 60 percent of Nashvillians voted to reelect Obama, but the rest of Tennessee, which is overwhelmingly Republican, backed Romney. Makes you wonder if (when?) the rest of the state's going to start Dixie Chicking their own capital.

Yes, it can be a lovely place to take a nice evening stroll...until you're almost cut down by some lunatic on a flying bicycle! Seriously, do they all think they're training for the Tour de France, or what? Maybe they ought to implement spot steroid checks or something.

But you'll probably miss half the game standing in line for a hotdog, since every church youth group in town shows up for these. Nashville's AAA baseball team may not be the best one in the minor leagues, but at least they've got God on their side, and fannies in their seats.

Why else would the company's 33-foot office tower, which looms large over the Nashville skyline, bear such an eerie resemblance to the caped crusader? Perhaps an aging Batman decided Gotham City's winters were just getting too harsh, or maybe he, too, has secret aspirations of making it big in country music.
