1. Minneapolitans Know What It’s Like To Actually Walk To School Uphill In 15 Inches Of Snow

You know the old joke, “In my day, I used to have to walk to school uphill in 15 inches of snow?” While that image may apply to grandparents talking to their grandkids about how much easier their lives are, people in Minneapolis can use it to describe their winters in comparison to pretty much anywhere else. But, when you do survive the I-can’t-feel-my-face weather, you can have bragging rights for years to come.

2. Every Minneapolitan Has A Mouth Crush On Juicy Lucy

You can never eat too many Jucy Lucys, or Juicy Lucys, in a lifetime. There will always be a debate over which restaurant makes the better burger, either Matt’s Bar or the 5-8 Club, but the fact is, you love this burger just for existing.

3. Not Everyone Here Sounds Like The Stereotype, Doncha Know?

You’re not going to get a rendition of Fargo every time you leave your house. People don’t say “You betcha!” multiple times a day. Yes, the accent does come out every now and then. But we somehow manage to go on with our lives.

4. Folks In Minneapolis Aren’t Being Passive Aggressive, They Really Are That Nice

It may be a stereotype to call someone “Minnesota Nice,” but sometimes, it’s the truth. Instead of saying, “That’s awful,” a local would most likely lean toward saying, “That’s different.”

5. In The Winter, The Skyways Seem Like The Greatest Architectural Marvel Since The Pyramids

Fresh air can be overrated in February. It’s not exactly fun to tear up the minute you step outside—in six or more layers of clothing. So, you’ve resigned yourself to a skyway existence for a few months out of the year, if you have the option to use them. Winter is so pretty when you can see it from a window. For those who don't need to use skyways: Your motivation to go anywhere deserves a high five.

6. For Minneapolitans Summers Are Basically A Three-Month-Long Party

It may be elusive at the start, too humid in the middle, and too short at the end, but summer is beloved here. Minneapolis locals take summer seriously not only because the majority of winter is spent inside, but also because nature draws you outside. Lake Calhoun, for instance, has been the setting of many of your summer Sundays.

7. You Can’t Have A Party Without Beer, Fortunately Minneapolis Has The Best

You can blame it on a need to escape the winters again, or you can just chalk it up to plain old good taste: Minneapolis is a beer destination. You can’t live here—and drink here—without having a favorite brewery. Surly Brewing Company, Dangerous Man Brewing Company, Fulton Brewery, 612Brew, Indeed Brewing Company—there’s more, of course, but places like these understand Minneapolitans drinking needs.

8. Everyone In Minneapolis Is An Artist, Or Knows Someone Who Is

Minneapolis may be home to several Fortune 500 companies, but it’s also a hub for artists. That mix between corporate and creative is one of the most interesting aspects of living here. You know someone working toward an artistic goal, like a gallery opening, a music demo, or a finished novel, and there always seems to be an up-and-comer to check out.

9. While Everyone Here Appreciates The Arts, There’s One Iconic Work That’s Not To Everyone’s Taste

The Spoonbridge and Cherry sculpture may be the most popular attraction at the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, but that doesn't mean it’s universally liked. In fact, you know some people (or may be a member of this group) who definitely do not see it as iconic.

10. One Thing Is Certain, Every Minneapolitan Knows Which Of The Twin Cities Is Better
