The scenic Memphis suburb of Lakeland kicks off our list with top marks from GreatSchools.org, and spacious craftsman, farmhouse, and ranch style homes on large lots. Active families will love fishing, picnicking, and hiking at the wooded 65-acre International Harvester Park. Residents are also just minutes from the Wolfchase Galleria Mall, which houses brand name retailers and casual dining.

Hernando residents enjoy a close-knit community, quiet streets, and numerous bike lanes and trails. Grab fresh local produce for a family meal at the Hernando Farmers Market, or enjoy a picnic by the lake at Lee’s Summit Park.
The historic town of Arlington rounds out our list of the best Memphis suburbs for families with a low unemployment rate and spacious craftsman, Tudor, and ranch style homes on large lots. Learn history hands-on with a family outing to the numerous historic sites and museums in Arlington, like the 1800s blacksmith shop, and Rachel H. K. Burrow Museum. Because some things are of extra importance to families, we weighted the GreatSchools.org score and total crimes per 100k score to make up 25 percent of the final score, while the rest of the categories made up 10 percent.
