Located 5 miles west of Indianapolis, Avon is close to both interstate 465, which loops around the city, and interstate 70, which runs east and west through the state. The location to these to interstates makes commuting into the city convenient for both work and play. Avon is also located 5 minutes from the Indianapolis International Airport making it an ideal place to live for those who travel often.

Avon is the 57th most populated city in the state of Indiana and as of 2014, Avon has a population of 15,871, up 17.7% from the 2010 US Census population of 13,566. Avon is relatively made up of young families with 40% of the households having children 18 years and younger. Only 8% of the population is 65 years and older.
Eighty-eight percent of the population is Caucasian with the other 12% being African-American, Asian or Hispanic. Of those living in Avon, only 29% have a have a high school diploma, but 56% have an undergraduate degree and 10% have a graduate degree.
Most Avon citizens are familiar with the city and surrounding area, having called it home since birth; 64% of the population are from Indianapolis or surrounding towns and cities within Indiana.

Avon is nestled among other small town communities such as Plainfield and Brownsburg and all play on the backs of one another in what to offer for recreation. Art galleries, located in both Plainfield and Brownsburg, allow for strolling through exhibits or to take art classes. Avon itself is home to beautiful Avon Perennial Gardens. This garden has five acres of landscaped gardens, waterfalls, ponds and fountains to stroll through and enjoy the outdoors
As with any small town, youth sports are a gathering of themselves and Avon is no different. Baseball, softball, basketball and football programs can be enjoyed at recreational and school levels as well as with county and club programs. For those wanting time on the links, Prestwick Country Club offers a beautiful, well-maintained golf course.
Avon has numerous acres of parks to play in. The main park, Avon Town Hall Park, has the only outdoor table tennis tables in the state of Indiana and all can play for free. This same park also has a 9-acre fishing lake, trails for biking, walking and riding as well as a large play area. The park has a disc golf course and due to open in the spring of 2016, is the area’s only outdoor radio-controlled off-road track.
The Washington Township Community Park is another popular spot due its playground and water splash park for the children. Activities to be enjoyed include biking and walking trails, a creek to play in, basketball courts and shelters.
Throughout the summer, various festivals such as the Community Heritage Festival as well as the Hendricks County Rib Fest bring families and friends together.
For after-hours entertainment, Avon offers a few pubs to relax inside or on the patio with friends or an easy drive to downtown Indianapolis offers a variety of venues to choose from.
Avon is best known for its High School Marching Band and has gained national recognition as being one of the best in the country and winning numerous awards. The Avon Marching Black and Gold band have 11 state championship titles to their name by coming in first in the Indiana State School Music (ISSMA) State Championship.
The band has also placed first in Bands of America Grand Nationals in 2008, 2009 and 2010. This is a competition in which 80 to 90 bands perform. The band has also performed in the 2012 Rose Parade.
