School Overview: Memorial Middle School
Memorial Middle School is a part of the Spring Branch Independent School District. It started out in the fall of 1963 as a Junior High School and then became a Middle School in 1991 in order to focus its resources on preparing students for higher learning by exposing them to a variety of learning styles.
The school covers grades six to eight and had a student population of 1,411 in 2014. It was one of the three schools in the school district to get the 2011 National Center for Education Achievement's Higher Performing Schools award.
In 2014, the Texas Education Agency gave Memorial Middle School a Four-Star Distinction. The Agency measured four performance indices: student achievement, student progress, closing performance gaps, and postsecondary readiness. The middle school met all four standards measured and tested an impressive 96 percent on student achievement.
Memorial Middle School has a rich Spelling Bee history, with its students regularly winning state and regional competitions. Extracurricular activities at this middle school include provisions for different sports, including track events and basketball. Besides sports, Memorial Middle School also has a rich music program that puts students in band, choir, and orchestra groups. There are also a number of art classes, including photography and theater.
