Houston schools run the gamut from private religious schools to charter schools and fantastic public schools. Though it can be overwhelming, prioritize finding the right school for your family during your home search so that you save yourself from potential frustration later. Once you've got a school district in mind (or more than one), Movoto can help you find the perfect home that fits your dream, your budget, and your goals.

School Overview: Carnegie Vanguard High School

Carnegie Vanguard is one of Houston's top high schools for gifted and talented students, ranked among the top 30 in the U.S. by “U.S. News and World Report” and “The Washington Post.” A rigorous academic standard encourages students to challenge themselves. In 2014, over 1,000 students applied for a freshman class with only 175 openings, making Carnegie Vanguard more selective than many universities by far. By serving students from all Houston school districts, CVHS maintains a high level of diversity as well as academic prestige. This means that you won't have to limit your house search to a particular geographic area in order for your children to attend this school. Another mark of CVHS's academic strength is their well-developed AP program, which offers dozens of AP classes. Foreign language offerings include French, Latin, and Spanish. Some extracurricular programs actually serve as course credit, including working on the yearbook or taking an internship at the Houston Chronicle. A huge range of student clubs and activities outside the academic realm range from yoga to anime, robotics, and Latin dance, so students have plenty of options to explore their interests or try out something new.
