1. Georgians Have Nonstop Views...Literally

Georgians know that metro living rocks, especially in Atlanta with the massive Westin Peachtree hotel, the pinnacle of luxury. The hotel also holds one of the most interesting restaurants ever created: the Sun Dial. The entire restaurant actually revolves to showcase 360 degrees of city view. It’ll take a full hour to go completely around—just enough time for Georgians to finish their fabulous three-course meal.

2. People In Georgia Camp In Style

They love to camp, but not in the way you’d think. They love the wetlands just as much as anyone else, but the fact is this: Georgians love to be pampered, even (and especially) when camping. Nothing beats the Martyn House in Ellijay, GA, where you’ll stay in luxury “tents” with beds, toilets and showers. Forget the air mattresses, and don’t worry about the bugs. Really roughing it, those Georgians.

3. Georgians Know Ranch Dressing Is Food Of The Gods

Is this a surprise? No. Georgians are culinary geniuses and love their food more than anything else. Especially ranch dressing. They’ll pour it–even drink it-on just about anything.

4. People In Georgia Know Those Yankee Teams Don’t Stand A Chance Against The Braves

Georgia is, after all, the true home of the Braves. Georgia’s nuts about the American pastime, and in Atlanta the competitive spirit gets pretty intense. Those rotten Yankees up north don’t stand a chance in the Peach State.

5. Georgians Never Feel The Need To Rush

You can bet that sometimes all that fancy glamping, the fine dining and screaming for the Braves can make a person crave some peace and quiet. Georgians love to just pass the time away with some sweet tea in hand, stretched out on the porch. They would say that their days would be perfect if it could last for a lifetime.

6. Zaxby’s Would Be Every Georgian’s Last Meal

Fast food is an American institution, but you won’t find Georgians feasting on Big Macs or Whoppers. It’s all about fried chicken in Georgia, and you can’t find better than Zaxby’s.

7. The Original Waffle House Is Where the Real Pancakes Are Made

When the sun rises nothing says “good morning” like a trip to Waffle House. Every Georgian loves this place, and they should, since it’s a local institution. The headquarters is right in Georgia. Waffle House is so popular that it’s spread across the state to Texas, but everyone knows where it got started.

8. Paula Deen Is Still Every Georgian’s Sweetheart, No Matter What

Georgians are definitely loyal and they won’t ever budge on their beliefs about their idols. Just about everyone knows the scandal that erupted last year surrounding Paula Deen, but get this: Almost 75 percent of Georgia’s Republicans still favor her quite well as a celebrity.

9. For Georgians Breakfast Always Means Grits

Don’t ever mess with a Georgian and grits. You can have all the fried eggs, sausage links, and pancakes that you want, but if you don’t complement them with a tasty bowl of grits, you’re gonna have a bad time.

10. If Georgia’s Rivers Were Filled With Sweet Tea, Georgians Would Probably Jump Right In

Along with the grits and some fried chicken, don’t be surprised if you see every Georgian with a glass of sweet tea and an orange wedge. Since you hardly ever see an ounce of snow and the weather’s gorgeous all year round, it’s basically a requirement to enjoy the morning with a spot of sweet tea.

11. Alan Jackson Is Georgia’s Music God

Tennessee might have the Grand Ole Opry House, but Georgia hopefuls will always have Alan Jackson, a man straight out of Georgia who writes country songs about his state with passion and truth. The guy even wrote about the muddy waters of the great Chattahoochee River. How could they not love him?

12. Every Georgian Draws With Chalk, Not Just The Kids

If you don’t believe me, just take a look at some of the people at Forsyth Park in Savannah. Every spring you’ll see tons of people creating masterpieces on the sidewalks thanks to the Savannah College of Arts & Design’s Sidewalk Arts Festival. For Georgians, just about anything is a canvas for chalk.

13. People In Georgia Know Moonshine In The Mountains Is Better Than Any Nightclub

If a Georgian loves a good trip into the Appalachian backwoods and mountains, it’s a pretty safe bet that Georgian loves them some good ol’ moonshine. Hooch, white lightning, whatever you want to call it – it’s a fact that just about any Georgian will drink you under the table. Keep your tequila in Texas. Nothing beats that wicked moonshine.

14. The Civil War Will Never Die For Georgians

Georgians can’t resist reliving those days (even if they don’t actually know what they were like), sometimes quite literally. The Atlanta Campaign in particular dedicates itself to maintaining the historical significance of the Civil War through reenactments every year.

15. Georgians Don’t Rock Climb, They Boulder

And no wonder. Look at the terrain you get to work with in the state, not to mention spots like the Lost Wall, Mount Yonah, Currahee Mountain, Tallulah Gorge, North Georgia’s Rock Town, and Boat Rock in the metro Atlanta area. Just about anywhere you can go, you’ll find Georgians climbing rocks and bouldering to their heart’s content.

16. Georgians Are All Whitewater Rafting Champs

There’s no doubt that with the hot Georgia sunshine all the rock climbing will make you long for some cool water. Every Georgian adores a rafting trip down the Chattooga river—but this isn’t the calm and laziness of river drifting like in Missouri. I’m talking about rafting beasts unlike anything you’ve ever seen.

17. Everyone In Georgia Would Kill For Some Tutti Frutti Ice Cream

Savannah people take pride in their ice cream, and for good reason. Iconic ice cream shop Leopolds may be responsible for one of the most colorful flavors ever created—Tutti Frutti. It’s like eating a frozen fruit cake.

18. Martinis Aren’t Just A Drink To Georgians, They’re Art

A Georgian mixologist might just put the fancy cocktails in New York and Los Angeles to shame, especially at Jen’s & Friends in Savannah, with some of the most interesting martinis you’ll ever taste. Ever heard of a Rice Krispie Treat Martini or a Moon Pie Martini? How about a Peppermint Martini at Christmas?

19. The Big Oak Is Every Georgian’s Pride and Joy

The “Big Oak” in Thomasville has been around for generations, registered with the Live Oak Society and possessing a girth of a gargantuan 21 feet and 6 inches. It’s a historical landmark, too, and boy, are those people proud. It’s constantly maintained, because they want to ensure the Big Oak will continue to tower for generations to come.

20. The Best Way To Go Down The River Is By Inner Tube

Whitewater rafting was already mentioned, but remember what I said about Georgians loving to get a little peace and quiet too. A serene trip down the Chattahoochee on a tube, raft, or canoe with some moonshine in hand—very few things get better than that.

21. Georgians Know The Best Sunset Around Is From The Top Of Brasstown Bald

Forget Mount Rainier, McKinley and Whitney—those peaks don’t compare to the highest elevation in Georgia. Brasstown Bald might not be the highest mountain around, but it’s notorious for revealing the most spectacular of sunsets.

22. Fishing Is Practically A Religion To Georgians

Georgians adore fishing, no matter what type: Lake, creek, river, fly fishing. It doesn’t matter as long as there’s a hook, some walleye, small mouth bass, white bass, bluegill, yellow perch, channel and flathead catfish. You want to get on a Georgian’s good side? Take ‘em fishing.

23. Georgians Watch Movies Old School

Thanks to the pleasant weather and Georgia’s soft spot for nostalgia, it’s no surprise that this classic American institution still lives on in with the Tiger Drive-In in Tiger, GA, an establishment priding itself on the throwbacks of the heyday. There’s even a Hot Rod Night where patrons can bring their classic cars for a free popcorn and soda. What do you love about living in Georgia? Tell us in the comments below!
