Take some time to remember fallen American heroes and those currently serving in the U.S. military at the Deltona Veterans Memorial Museum. Check out the awesome U.S. Army AH-1 Cobra Helicopter and make an afternoon of the visit by having lunch at the picnic area in Veterans Memorial Park.

9. Swing Your Way Through The Deltona Desert

Nicknamed “the Deltona Desert,” the Deltona Club golf course has no water hazards and an insane number of sand traps. Central Florida is known for its golf courses, and this beautifully maintained course is one of the most fun in the region.

10. Community And Environment Come Together At The Lyonia Environmental Center...

Kids and adults learn about the fragile ecosystems of Volusia County at the Lyonia Environmental Center. There's plenty of hands-on educational fun, plus the attached Deltona Amphitheater has 1,000 seats and hosts all sorts of concerts, plays, educational programs and other community events.

11. ... To Save The Local Scrub

The Lyonia Environmental Center is at the Lyonia Preserve. It's 360 acres of natural Florida scrub habitat, a rapidly disappearing ecosystem. The preserve is home to more than 120 animal species, including threatened scrub-dwelling species like the scrub jay and gopher tortoise, and more than 160 plant species. See it all along the hiking trails.

12. Deltona Gets Awesomely Festive Every Spring

Every April, the city hosts the Deltona Spring Fest. It's a celebration of the diverse community, with a variety of food, music, dancing, crafts and more from different ethnicities and cultures. Proceeds from the event go back to community educational organizations and causes.

The Dewey. O Boster Sports Complex is a center of community and sports life in the city. Its football and soccer fields, baseball diamonds, hiking trails, stage, picnic area, large playground and other amenities are the perfect spot for a gathering, exercise or outdoor escape.

14. Deltona Access To Pretty Much Everywhere

Deltona's on “The I-4 Corridor,” Central Florida's most important thoroughfare, stretching from Daytona to Tampa. It's also a quick drive to I-95, the main highway running up and down the country's East Coast. Public transportation is offered by Volusia County Public Transportation System (VOTRAN) and the city is connected to Orlando by LYNX. There's also a stop for the new Central Florida commuter rail line, SunRail.

For well over a decade, Deltona has hosted its Annual Spooktacular Halloween Event. The first night's specifically for teens and adults, while night two is for the whole family. Come for some seriously scary fun, including a haunted trail, haunted pirate ship and haunted hayride, all involving hundreds of actors in full costumes.

So, it's a little hot. Who cares? It's pretty much year-round beach weather, and so many beautiful beaches are so close at hand. Daytona Beach is 30 minutes away, but there are plenty of other options nearby, too. For example, New Smyrna, Ormond and Flagler Beaches are easily accessible and the towns are fun places to explore.
