Whitehall, Ohio is a suburb located on the Southeast corner of Columbus. It’s part of Franklin County, which is the second largest county in the entire state. As the state capital it’s an important part of the infrastructure of Ohio. More than 18,000 people live in Whitehall, so its residents are used to a mid-sized community with lots of strong ties to their neighbors.
The total area of the city is around five miles, so you can easily walk from one end of the town to the other with ease. Bexley, Minerva Park, and Valley View are a few of the towns nearby this working class community.
The overall vibe that surrounds Whitehall is blue collar, hard working, family loving, and serene. That means that even with a little bit of decline since the mid-90’s, the town has been working hard to come back since 2011, when they elected a new mayor. Kim Maggard has taken excellent strides to make her city a potentially great place to live, and raise your family in a safe environment. Her total rebranding of the city has taken it to the next level of desirability in the Columbus area. She even did a major overhaul to the city’s website, so that Whitehall is portrayed in a positive light the way people who live there see it. So the total vibe about Whitehall is one of renewal more than anything.

The median age of the residents of Whitehall is 34-years-old. It’s split pretty equally among the 18,000 people who live there, male and female. It’s 48 percent male, and 51 percent female. The breakdown of ethnicity is 52 percent Caucasian, 30 percent African American, 12 percent Hispanic, and 1 percent Asian. What you should learn from that is that it’s a terrific melting pot of people that live in this community and interact together. This is quite a change from the way that Whitehall used to be in the 70’s, 80’s, and early 90’s. It used to be predominantly blue collar Caucasian workers, but has gradually evolved to be a more diverse place to live.
About 8,000 household have children under the age of 18 living there. 13,000 of the residents are married, so it’s not a place overly for single people. It’s more geared towards families who want the best for their kids. Many neighborhoods cater to this fact, and feel comfortable letting their little ones place outside with their friends. Many block parties are held all over the city each summer, so that each street can get to know their neighbors in this old school and fun way.
There is a safe vibe overall to the area that allows neighbors to watch out for each other. The average people per household is 2.28. So while bigger families might not be the norm anymore, everyone has at least one or two children in the household.

Since Whitehall is only a ten minute drive from downtown Columbus, anything in that area is culture to be had for the residents of Whitehall. Columbus has a wide variety of live theaters, galleries, museums, and libraries for their residents to enjoy. The Columbus Metropolitan Library in Whitehall on East Broad Street is chock full of fantastic programs for the citizens who live there.
They have programs for adults and children that are fun, educational, and entertaining. It’s a true hub of activity for the Whitehall community. A new program they have geared towards teens called “You Media Teens” is especially valuable because it teaches them how to create interesting digital content. They also have a lot of programs geared towards seniors who need activities during the day. Computer programs are especially useful since it teaches people who might not be so comfortable with everything new technology has to offer, how to use it correctly.

The median income is only $33,000 in the Whitehall area, which lends itself to be a favorable area to settle down in due to the wide variety of affordable housing to own.
