College Station eats, sleeps, and breathes Aggie football. Come game day, the stadium floods with red as over 100,000 fans fill the stands while the city subsequently shuts down.
In these parts, “redass” isn’t an insult, but a compliment, referencing how much love a Texas A & M fan shows for their team.
2. Everyone Here Feels Strongly About Johnny Manziel
In recent years, Texas A & M’s former star quarterback took the entire country by storm, as people all across America were amazed by how well he could play. After Johnny Football left College Station, he joined the Cleveland Browns with starkly different results.
While not every College Station local loves this guy, they definitely have a strong opinion about him. Either they praise him thanks to his outstanding performance on Kyle Field or they despise him due to his immature lifestyle off of it.
3. College Station Loves To Drink Beer
A town with a big nightlife scene, College Station is home to Dixie Chicken, a bar that claims to sell more beer per square foot than any other drinking establishment in the nation. Couple that with the seemingly constant tailgating and festivals and you’ve got a city full of avid partiers.
4. College Station Folks Love To Stay Active
Thanks to the awesome weather in College Station, the people that live there love to spend time outside, whether they’re exercising, running around town, or spending time at nearby Lake Bryan.
A town with tons of young adults full of energy, life in College Station always seems to be on the move, producing a very vibrant and exciting local culture.
5. People In College Station Are Smart
Not only is this town home to Texas A & M, they’ve also got one of the best public education systems in the state and a higher than average percentage of residents with a college degree. These numbers have helped earn them the top spot in “Money” magazine’s list of smartest Texan cities in the past.
While the residents here aren’t snobby or pretentious, it’s quickly becomes obvious in nearly any conversation that College Station folk come from a very intelligent community.
6. College Station Folks Have Great Tans
Another benefit of living under the Texas sun is the great tan that comes along with it. With average highs above 60⁰ year round, peaking at 96⁰ in the summer, the people of College Station have plenty of time to work on naturally bronzing their skin.
It’s a sure bet that when an out-of-towner comes into town for a visit, they’ll instantly feel pale as a ghost.
7. College Station Folk Dread Cold Weather
While there are many reasons someone might want to call College Station home, most residents will probably cite weather as their favorite benefit.
College Station folks are the type to grab a winter coat as soon as the temperatures drop below 50 and as soon as a slight cool breeze floats through the air, the gloves and scarves coming out of the closet.
There are few things that College Station folk hate more than a true winter day.
8. College Station Folks Hate t.u.
If there’s one thing that College Station folk hate more than cold weather, it’s the University of Texas Longhorns. They hate them so much that they often refuse to refer to them by their nationally recognized nicknames, using “t.u.” instead of “UT” or “Texas.”
Come the annual rivalry game, it’s a sure bet that the second verse of the Aggie War Hymn will ring loud and clear throughout the entire city…“So long to the orange and the white!”
9. College Station Folks Look Smokin’ Hot In Cowboy Boots
Cowboy boots are a commonality among College Station folks, whether they’re headed to their favorite bar to two-step or simply walking to class…and no one is complaining.
It takes a certain type of person to rock the “cowboy/cowgirl” look successfully and those in College Station are certified pros.
10. College Station Folks Can’t Stop Smiling
With the warm weather, a lively atmosphere, and plenty of beer, it’s not a surprise that College Station folk have no problem staying happy. Texas A & M is consistently ranked as one of the happiest colleges in the country and the BCS area is regularly recognized as a great place to raise a family.
When it comes to cloudy days, College Station has very few of them, literally and figuratively. The only thing that can really make a College Station resident sad is when the Aggies lose a close game, fortunately that doesn’t happen very often.
