Carlsbad High School just signed a memorandum of understanding with Cal State San Marcos, which will guarantee all Carlsbad students entrance into the college if they meet the university system’s basic standards for acceptance. According to City Data, nearly 52 percent of Carlsbad’s adult residents have attained a Bachelor’s Degree or higher, almost double the rate for all of California.

5. Carlsbad’s Spas Will Steam The Stress Right Out Of You

Carlsbad takes its name from the European Bohemian town of Karlsbad, home of some of the most renown spas in the world. Here’s how it happened: in 1886, someone discovered that a freshwater well here was chemically similar to the spas in Karlsbad. So they just switched the C in for the K, and there you go! 23. Carlsbad Knows When Spring Has Sprung

Every year from March to May, more than 100,000 visitors meander the Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch, which grows:

24. It’s (Metaphorically) Adjacent To Germany

At least for the month of October, Carlsbad likes to identify with bratwurst and lederhosen as it celebrates Oktoberfest in the city’s Holiday Park. Parents who identify year-round enroll their children in the nearby Albert Einstein Charter School, which teaches in both English and German.

26. Carlsbad Struck Water

California is famous for striking gold, but Carlsbad struck this other valuable resource when Captain John Frazier settled here in 1883. He drilled two wells (that seemed to have water with curative powers for his chronic rheumatism) and offered up his find to passers-by on the California Southern Railroad. The stop became known as Frazier’s Station.
