In 1916, The Joy Zone, Orange County’s first beachside amusement park opened its doors on Seal Beach’s waterfront. The park put Seal Beach on the map and turned the small community into a popular destination. Unfortunately, that notoriety brought an often unwanted crowd with bars and brothels popping up throughout the city. Now, however, the enclave is known as the “Mayberry by the Sea” and the crime rate here is well below Orange County’s average.

A plethora of Irish bars dot Main Street, including The Irisher, O’Malley’s on Main, Clancy’s and Hennessey’s, making downtown Seal Beach a constant celebration destination. And don’t even get us started on St. Patrick’s Day when these four bars start planning months in advance for their busiest week of the year.
Aside from the mom and pops on Main Street, Seal Beach does have one large shopping center with anchor stores, such as Target, HomeGoods and Toys R Us and is conveniently located just minutes from the Long Beach Town Center and South Coast Plaza, Orange County’s premiere shopping destination.
