Tyrone GA is a beautiful residential oasis located in Fayetteville County neatly housed in a meager 12.8 square miles. The community offers the allure of a small town with close proximity to shopping, dining, and all of the other big city conveniences. Most residents move to this upscale town because they want to step away from the hustle and bustle of Atlanta without moving too far away. This city is located approximately 25 miles south of Atlanta, which is in the optimum location for quick commutes to and from work. Tyrone is one of Metro Atlanta's best kept secrets. It has an undeniable small-town feel with the fresh appeal of affluence, which is why Tyrone appeals to people and potential residents of all ages. 

Demographics 

Tyrone GA boasts a quaint population of 7,000 people, which was an 80.7% increase over the population in 2000. The community offers a small town feel in a family-friendly environment. The majority of the residents (62.8%) are married, while 26.2% have never been married. The median age of the residents in this town is 41.2 years of age. With an estimated median household income of $86,697 ($63,080 in 2000), Tyrone is a relatively affluent area. It's also an area of increasing property values. In 2000, the estimated median house or condo value was only $149,200. However, these values have almost doubled today to reach an impressive $232,290. Part of the growth and prosperity of the town can be attributed to the high education level of the residents. About 93% of the residents have graduated high school, 42% have bachelor's degrees or higher, and 18% of the residents have graduate or professional degrees.

Tyrone is conveniently located to several larger cities, and the residents have an median commute time of only 26.4 minutes. It's only 2.3 miles from Peachtree City, GA, which has a population of approximately 35,000 residents, and only 2.8 miles from Fayetteville, GA, which has a population off 16,370 residents. Most importantly, Tyrone is 25 miles south of Atlanta, which places the town in excellent proximity of several professional opportunities. Within the city of Tyrone, most of the employment opportunities are transportation and warehousing (19%); manufacturing (13%); professional, scientific, and technical services (10%); and retail trade (10%). 

Culture 

Each year, the City of Tyrone hosts a colorful week-long Founders Day Festival in September. As the name suggests, this occasion commemorates the establishment of the town. It features boatloads of food, fun, and events for the entire family, such as a carnival, parade, wrestling, Strong Man contest, beauty pageant, BBQ contest, bands, vendors, rodeo, and several contests. The Founders Day Festival also raises funds and awareness for pets and animals through PAWS for a Purpose and provides melodic tunes at Jazz in the Park. Unlike any other event, the One Worship Celebration brings multiple neighborhood churches together for a memorable multi-church event. In December, the city hosts a Christmas Tree Lighting Festival with a visit from Santa Clause, tasty treats, and much more.  

One of the true gems of Tyrone GA is the Wendell Coffee Golf and Event Center. Voted as one of the Top 50 driving ranges in the United States, this Country Club features a full range of golf, in-house catering service, and banquet and meeting space. On the expansive 50-acre property, members enjoy an all-grass lighted golf driving range and a clubhouse with a fireplace and bar. The golf course provides Tyrone and surrounding residents with an event center that is ideal for parties, wedding receptions, and meetings for more than 300 people. The Wendell Coffee Golf and Event Center also offers PGA golf classes and lessons for all ages.

The residents of Tyrone enjoy an extremely high quality of life with light traffic, a modern library, beautiful parks, and a pleasant small town atmosphere. Best of all, Tyrone is extremely safe and has a low crime environment with 1 in 3,500 chances of becoming a victim of crime.  Considered as an oasis from the hustle and bustle of Atlanta, the goal by town management is to preserve the small town atmosphere. All of the schools in Tyrone are in the Fayette County School System, which is revered as one of the best in the entire state of Georgia. Within this relatively small town, there are three public schools: Burch Elementary, Flat Rock Middle, and Sandy Creek High School. Sandy Creek High School averages an 89% graduation rate, which is 12% higher than the rest of the state. The city is also home to the Pre-K through 8th grade private school, Our Lady of Victory Catholic School. The Rec Center of Tyrone looks to keep the community fit with through a wealth of kids' activities, adult classes, senior activities, camps, and more. Spring sports include baseball, soccer league, and softball. Other notable events hosted by the Rec Center are tennis, yoga, dog obedience courses, Jazzercise classes, Zumba and Zumba Toning courses, baton twirling classes, line dance classes, and stitching groups. 

Best Known For 

Tyrone is best known for it's amazing vibe and extremely happy residents. It commonly ranks as one of the happiest places to live in Georgia. Tyrone is home to two dynamic NFL superstars, Kedric Golston and Calvin "Megatron" Johnson. The NASCAR driver Joey Clanton and the NBA's Chris Webber also call this luxury area home. As one of Georgia's newer cities, Tyrone was incorporated on August 18, 1911. The land was originally occupied by Creek Indians, but Irish farmers settled the land in the late 1800s. A few of the homes constructed by the initial settlers are still occupied by their descendants today.   

Tyrone GA is truly one of the hidden gems of the Metro Atlanta area. Although it's small, it lacks nothing in culture and comfortability, which makes it one of the premier locations in the entire state.
