Tucked into the historic Tamarack Camp neighborhood, just three miles west of Bear Valley Village, the Whiteside Cabin is a wonderfully preserved piece of High Sierra history: a place where nearly a century of mountain summers, snowy winters and Sierra adventures have left their mark. Dating to the 1937-1949 era, this rustic log cabin retains the kind of authentic character that simply cannot be recreated. Original wooden shutters, vintage lamps and period details remain throughout. At the heart of the cabin is a substantial stone fireplace and hearth, complete with original ironwork and cookpots, while an antique cookstove recalls a time when meals were prepared and the cabin warmed by the same crackling fire. The main level offers a bedroom and remodeled bathroom, while upstairs you'll find a large, old-fashioned sleeping loft with room for up to four beds, the perfect setup for a cabin full of family and friends after a day spent skiing, hiking, kayaking or exploring the mountains. Plumbing hookups are already in place for the future addition of a second bathroom. An original outbuilding provides plenty of room to stash the kayaks, bicycles, skis and mountain toys. A brand new metal roof was installed in 2025 and the new (permitted) septic system was installed in 2020. The cabin's history is every bit as special as its setting. Known as the Whiteside Cabin, the namesake of Whiteside Drive, the property dates back to an era when members of the Washoe community camped in the surrounding meadow and traded with local cabin owners. Historic photographs associated with the property include Mrs. Whiteside with members of the local Washoe community, adding another tangible connection to this corner of Sierra history. Set three parcels back from Tamarack's frontage road, the location also offers more convenient access during the heart of winter.
