{"id":921,"date":"2021-03-15T07:55:00","date_gmt":"2021-03-15T14:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.igenhome.local\/real-estate-and-more\/what-millenials-want-in-a-home\/"},"modified":"2022-04-19T22:58:20","modified_gmt":"2022-04-20T05:58:20","slug":"what-millennials-want-in-a-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.movoto.com\/blog\/what-millennials-want-in-a-home\/","title":{"rendered":"What Millennials Want In a Home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Wall Street Journal recently ran <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.wsj.com\/developments\/2011\/01\/13\/no-mcmansions-for-millennials\/\">a fascinating article<\/a> about what the next generation of homeowners &#8211; Generation Y &#8211; expects from real estate.<br \/>\nThough <a href=\"https:\/\/www.movoto.com\/foundation\/house-values-are-rising-values-pricing-out-millennials\/\">many millennials<\/a> who graduated from college just in time for the collapse of the economy as we knew it still consider homeownership a far-away (or perhaps long-gone) aspiration, a time will come when their preferences dominate the market.\u00a0 After all, they outnumber their baby-boomer parents by about 4 million.<br \/>\nAccording to the <i>Journal<\/i>, the homebuyers of tomorrow have different priorities when it comes to real estate &#8211; at least for now.\u00a0 They want space to socialize, they want low-maintenance, and they want flexibility.\u00a0 No formal dining rooms, manicured lawns, or elaborate bathrooms for these guys.<br \/>\nMost importantly, they don&#8217;t want to depend on their cars.\u00a0 While not everyone will be able to afford real city living, most millennials will settle for anywhere that&#8217;s equipped with walkable shopping, jobs, and entertainment.<br \/>\nAs a millennial, I&#8217;d say that these assessments ring true &#8211; but it&#8217;ll be interesting to see how\/if the generation&#8217;s priorities change as we get closer to &#8220;putting down roots&#8221;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Wall Street Journal recently ran a fascinating article about what the next generation of homeowners &#8211; Generation Y &#8211; expects from real estate.
