The most expensive house in Florida is a 16 acre estate on the barrier island of Manalapan, owned by the family of deceased publisher William B. Ziff Jr. The estate includes five houses with a total of 85,000 square feet of living space. The main house is a 12-bedroom, Mediterranean-style home designed by renowned Palm Beach architect, Marion Sims Wyeth. In addition, there is a guest house with seven bedrooms, two seaside cottages and a house for the property manager. One side of the property stretches along the Atlantic Ocean and the other is situated on the Intracoastal with a dock and pier. The estate also features a PGA-standard golf area, basketball and tennis courts, Robinson Crusoe-style tree house. a bird sanctuary and a butterfly garden. The property is listed at $195 million and is the second most expensive house in the nation.<\/p>\n

Florida\u2019s second most expensive home is the Le Palais Royal mansion. Construction was recently completed on this Pompano Beach home, owned by construction tycoon Robert Pereira. The mansion was inspired by the Chateau de Versailles in France and is situated between the ocean and Intracoastal with two docks. Its 60,500-square-foot living space includes 11 bedrooms and 17 bathrooms. The entry gates are gilded in 22 karat yellow gold leaf, and the home\u2019s marble stair case accounts for $2 million of its construction cost. The 4,500 square foot swimming pool includes a swim up bar, six waterfalls and a slide. A glass bottomed hot tub is suspended over it. There\u2019s also an underground garage with capacity for 30 cars. Other luxuries include a 3,000 bottle wine cellar, a night club, bowling alley, ice skating rink, IMAX cinema and putting green. Le Palais Royal listed<\/a> at $159 million and is third place in the nation\u2019s most expensive homes.<\/p>\n

At third place on Florida\u2019s list of exorbitantly priced residences is the Versailles House in Windermere, owned by Westgate Resorts founder David Siegel. The 90,000 square foot home boasts 13 bedrooms and 23 bathrooms. It rests on the shores of a Lake Butler peninsula and features an 80 foot waterfall. The estate includes two theaters, three swimming pools, a bowling alley, roller rink, arcade, tennis courts and a baseball field. The home originally listed at $75 million but was incomplete at that time. Construction has since resumed, and the price for the completed project is $100 million. Versailles House is the fourth most expensive house in the country.<\/p>\n

The Versace House is a South Beach mansion built in the 1930’s along the Atlantic Ocean. A two-story addition was built on in 1992, bringing it to 23,462 square feet. The home features 10 bedrooms and 11 baths with hand painted walls and ceiling frescoes. Its 54 foot pool is embellished with mosaic tiles. The home ties with the Versailles House as the third most expensive house in Florida based on its list price of $100 million, but it later ended up in a bankruptcy auction.<\/p>\n

5. 1220 South Ocean Boulevard, Palm Beach, Florida, 33480<\/b><\/p>\n

The fifth most expensive home in the Sunshine State is a French inspired estate located on Billionaire\u2019s Row in Palm Beach. Its 20,000 square feet of living space includes 9 bedrooms and 17 baths. In addition, there are 7000 square feet of loggias, garages and a guest house. The home features crown molding, marble and wood floors and an intricately detailed front door. Decorative iron gates guard the entry to the property and sculptured gardens and fountains adorn the grounds. The estate is situated on the Intracoastal with its own dock. The gated property is bordered by the ocean on one side and the Intracoastal on the other. It includes seven buildings that provide approximately 26,000 square feet of living space. The four bedroom, seven and a half bath, main house was built in 1902 and features vaulted wood ceilings, fireplaces, a game room, theater, wet bar and library.
