Attracting hundreds of thousands of people to Grand Island every year (formerly Lincoln), it\u2019s hard to beat all the fried food, thrill rides, and people watching you\u2019ll find at this celebration of the Cornhusker State.<\/p>\n

5. \u201cBig Red\u201d Confusion<\/h2>\n

In Nebraska, \u201cBig Red\u201d is used solely as a reference to the Cornhuskers athletic squads. This doesn\u2019t keep out-of-towners from thinking the term refers to brands of bubble gum or soda though that both go by the same name.<\/p>\n

Voted the top zoo in the world by TripAdvisor, Omaha’s<\/a> Henry Doorly Zoo consists of over 130 acres, a huge aquarium, one of the largest indoor rainforest exhibit around, and over 17,000 animals. Once you\u2019ve made the trip here, nothing else really compares.<\/p>\n

9. Traveling All The Way To Europe To See Stonehenge<\/h2>\n

Built near Alliance in 1987 by Jim Reinders as a memorial to his father, Carhenge is a replica of England\u2019s Stonehenge that consists of 39 automobiles arranged in a circle. It\u2019s been featured in the media plenty of times, including a nod in the popular travel book \u201c1,000 Places to See in the USA and Canada Before You Die.\u201d<\/p>\n

It snows quite a bit in Nebraska, especially depending on where you\u2019re at in the state. This means that all Nebraskans grow up to be seasoned veterans when it comes to driving on winter roads. Nothing is more annoying than that one person going half the speed limit in the fast lane when the roads are \u201cbasically fine.\u201d<\/p>\n

Omaha is home to the annual College World Series in which eight of the best teams compete to be number one. Tons of Nebraskans go crazy for this event. While Nebraska does have a couple larger cities, the further west you go, the fewer people you\u2019ll see. People tend to stick on the eastern side of the state unless they\u2019ve got their eyes set on a serious road trip through a lot of lonely spaces.<\/p>\n

There are a lot of rumors about how the Reuben originated, but everyone in this state knows the actual story is that it was invented at Omaha\u2019s own Blackstone Hotel. During the early 1900s, a man named Reuben Kulakofsky threw some corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Russian dressing on some rye bread, thus creating what would go one to become one of the most recognizable sandwiches in the country.<\/p>\n

As a part of the Midwest, Nebraska gets plenty of that unpredictable Midwestern weather. Sunshine one hour can mean rain might be falling the next, shortly turning into snow before the temperatures pump back up to the sweltering hot range.<\/p>\n

Probably thanks to the crazy weather and temperature swings in this state, the roads seem to constantly seem in a state of disrepair. Dodging orange traffic cones seems to be a pastime around here.<\/p>\n

Why would someone in Nebraska drive all the way to the coast when they\u2019ve got Lake MCConaughy nearby? Also known as Lake Mac, this man-made body of water is not only the largest lake in the state, it reaches a whopping 142 feet of depth at its deepest point when it\u2019s full.<\/p>\n

21. Justifying Why Nebraska Is Such An Awesome Place To Live<\/h2>\n

Most Americans aren\u2019t really aware of how awesome Nebraska actually is. Sure, it might not have huge cities like Illinois<\/a> or the beautiful mountains of Colorado<\/a>, but it\u2019s got its own unique charm.
