When you found out you were leaving Pittsburgh<\/a>, the first thing you probably felt was guilt that you were abandoning the city that gave you The Steelers.
\nBut then you realized you can be a Steelers fan anywhere, and God knows you will be. Your love for this team could never be broken by physical distance.<\/p>\n

2. You\u2019ll Probably Sleep With Your Terrible Towel Like It\u2019s A Security Blanket<\/h2>\n

Now that you\u2019re so far away from home, chances are you cuddle with your Terrible Towel like it\u2019s a security blanket every single night.

Jumbos AKA fried bologna sandwiches are the best. You know that? I know that. We all know that. And yet, for some reason, Pittsburghers are the only ones calling these delicious things \u201cjumbos.\u201d<\/p>\n

9. The Whole Lawn Chairs In Parking Spaces Thing Won\u2019t Fly Outside Of Pittsburgh<\/h2>\n

In Pittsburgh, it\u2019s perfectly normal to reserve your parking space using lawn chairs and other various household items you have lying around. However, don\u2019t be surprised if you use these tactics in your new city and it\u2019s not well-received.<\/p>\n

10. Everyone Is Always Going To Ask You About Philadelphia, Even Though You HATE Philadelphia<\/h2>\n

Once people start making assumptions that you\u2019re from Philly, they may even go so far as to make assumptions that you\u2019re a Philadelphia Flyers fan, even though you\u2019re obviously all about the Penguins.<\/p>\n

12. From Now On, You\u2019ll Have To Call A Buggy A \u201cShopping Cart\u201d<\/h2>\n

When you leave Pittsburgh, one of the first things you might notice is that everyone around you calls buggies \u201cshopping carts\u201d, so be prepared to explain yourself if you ask for a \u201cbuggy\u201d and people respond, \u201cLike…a horse and buggy?\u201d<\/p>\n

13. And Get Used To \u201cVacuuming\u201d Instead Of \u201cRedding Up With A Sweeper\u201d<\/h2>\n

Note to recent deserters of Pittsburgh: once you leave, you\u2019re going to have to vaccuum. No more \u201credding up with a sweeper\u201d like you\u2019re used to.<\/p>\n

14. You\u2019re Not Going To Find People As Tough As You<\/h2>\n

Pittsburgh as a city has had to endure a lot of ups and downs, particularly when it comes to economic hardships. So you\u2019re not about to cry over a little spilled milk.
\nThat being said, the rest of the world is probably not as tough as you are so you may have to soften your Iron City heart just a tad if you want to fit in elsewhere.<\/p>\n

15. So Not Everyone Is Going To Take Kindly To You Calling Them A \u201cJagoff\u201d<\/h2>\n

In Pittsburgh, it\u2019s totally acceptable to call someone a jagoff. Usually people know you\u2019re just messing around, but even if you aren\u2019t it isn\u2019t a big deal in Pittsburgh.
\nElsewhere, however, people may look twice at you. Though, that doesn\u2019t really matter: if they have a problem with you, they\u2019re probably just being a jagoff\u2026<\/p>\n

16. You\u2019ll Never Find A Better Gas Station Than Sheetz<\/h2>\n

One of the first things you\u2019ll realize when you leave Pittsburgh is how silly and ridiculous all other gas stations are. If they\u2019re not Sheetz, complete with its delicious food, great coffee, and affordable convenient store, then they really just don\u2019t make sense.<\/p>\n

17. You\u2019ll Have To Get Used To People Giving Directions Using Actual Directions (North, South, East, West\u2026)<\/h2>\n

Growing up in Pittsburgh, you\u2019re used to giving directions based on various locations and places that probably burned down before you were even born.
\nYou\u2019re just so used to giving directions based on random landmarks that it may be kind of difficult to get around your new town (and even more difficult to help someone else get around!).<\/p>\n

18. All Other Baseball Stadiums Are Going To Pale In Comparison<\/h2>\n

The Pirates Stadium is, by far, the most gorgeous baseball stadium in the United States. Therefore, you are probably going to be sorely disappointed when you try to catch a game in your new town or city.<\/p>\n

19. And So Will Other City\u2019s Bridges<\/h2>\n

They don\u2019t call Pittsburgh \u201cBridge City\u201d for nothing–this city has some gorgeous bridges with some breathtaking views. So don\u2019t be surprised if all of the other \u201cfamous\u201d bridges you encounter seem a little less awesome than the ones you grew up driving over.<\/p>\n

20. People Will Think You\u2019re Weird For Eating Heinz By Itself<\/h2>\n

Because the Heinz factory is located in Pittsburgh, you\u2019ve grown up your whole life eating Heinz on everything. Or on nothing.<\/p>\n

22. Your Mouth Will Water For Pierogies, Only To Realize No Other Pierogies In The World Compare<\/h2>\n

Pittsburgh knows how to do Pierogies. And with such a large Polish population living in the city, this totally makes sense.
\nBut when you leave Pittsburgh, you have a hard enough time finding people who even know what pierogies are let alone people who know how to make them right!<\/p>\n

23. Not Everyone Understands The Importance Of Mr.Rogers As Much As You Do<\/h2>\n

Mr.Rogers is a Pittsburgh icon. And while there are people outside of the state who appreciate him, they don\u2019t quite get just how awesome he really is. Which will mean you\u2019ll just have to convince everyone you meet of his greatness.<\/p>\n

24. Driving Is About To Get A Whole Lot Easier For You<\/h2>\n

Nowhere in the planet has as bad of traffic as Pittsburgh. Which means: Congratulations! Wherever you moved, at least you\u2019re not driving here.<\/p>\n

25. You\u2019ll Miss Hearing The German Language. And Eating German Food\u2026<\/h2>\n

Pittsburgh has a very large German population, and a Deutschtown that has some of the greatest German food and beers in the world. So don\u2019t be surprised if the Oktoberfest celebrations you attend outside of Pittsburgh simply pale in comparison to what you\u2019re used to.<\/p>\n

26. No Other Nightlife Will Ever Make You As Happy As The Strip Does<\/h2>\n

Regardless of whether or not an outside might consider The Strip in Pittsburgh to be the best nightlife around, to a Pittsburgher \u201cThe Strip\u201d is an area full of the best bars, clubs, restaurants, and entertainment venues in Pennsylvania. So, naturally, nightlife elsewhere will never quite live up.<\/p>\n

27. You\u2019re Not Going To Be Called \u201cHon\u201d As Much As You\u2019re Used To<\/h2>\n

Whether it\u2019s a waitress at a small mom-and-pop diner or the cashier at the grocery store, chances are they\u2019ll call you \u201chon\u201d when you\u2019re in Pittsburgh.
\nThis will not always be the case when you leave the city. Try not to take offense: some people just aren\u2019t as nice once you leave Pittsburgh.<\/p>\n

28. Those Things You Grew Up Calling \u201cHoagies\u201d Will Most Likely Now Be Called \u201cSubs\u201d<\/h2>\n

For some strange reason, the rest of the world thinks \u201choagies\u201d are called \u201csubs\u201d. You may have to order a \u201csub\u201d in order to get what you want, but this doesn\u2019t mean you should stop correcting them regarding the incorrect terminology.<\/p>\n

29. No One Else In The World Pronounces Iron Correctly\u2026<\/h2>\n

Everyone in Pittsburgh knows you pronounce \u201cIron\u201d as \u201cAhrn\u201d. However, this is not the case outside of the city, so it\u2019ll naturally drive you crazy once you leave.<\/p>\n

30. And You Will Forever Miss The \u201cAhrn\u201d City<\/h2>\n

You don\u2019t just like the \u201cAhrn\u201d City–you LOVE it. It\u2019s your home. It\u2019s filled with beautiful people, gorgeous bridges and buildings, delicious food, unique cultures, and–of course–the best football in the country. So if you\u2019re homesick, you should be.
