Visit a few high schools in southern Indiana, and you won\u2019t have to look far for students with a crazy story to tell about \u201cDrive Your Tractor to School\u201d Day.<br \/>\nYes, there is in fact a special day designated for it.<\/p>\n<h2>2. \u201cHoosiers\u201d Is Basically Holy Video Scripture<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 600px\" alt=\"Southern Indiana Understand\" src=\"http:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/citybuzz\/2014\/06\/southern-indiana-understand\/southern-indiana-understand-4.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"source\">Source: Hoosiers Facebook<\/div>\n<p>It wouldn\u2019t be surprising for any basketball fan in Southern Indiana to prostrate himself (or herself) on the floor at the mention of the greatest sports flick of all time. Admit it: you\u2019re hearing the epic soundtrack right now.<br \/>\nJust about every basketball team all over Indiana watches the movie at the beginning of every season. Do they quote the film word for word? Yes. Would they die of shock if you\u2019ve never seen the film? Most definitely.<\/p>\n<h2>3. Running Something Over With The Car Isn\u2019t Surprising Anymore<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 600px\" alt=\"Southern Indiana Understand\" src=\"http:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/citybuzz\/2014\/06\/southern-indiana-understand\/southern-indiana-understand-6.gif\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"source\">Source: Giphy.com<\/div>\n<p>This isn\u2019t an animal cruelty issue. Southern Indianans love deer and squirrels as much as anyone else. But the fact is, given all the open space and fields they traverse by vehicle all the time, it\u2019s pretty inevitable, and something they\u2019ve gotten used to.<br \/>\n\u201cOops, looks like we hit a deer. All right, let\u2019s get it off the road and back in the car. We&#8217;re late to the basketball game!&#8221; Pretty standard.<\/p>\n<h2>4. They\u2019re just well prepared for anything.<br \/>\nIndiana doesn\u2019t know how to make up its mind with the weather. One day, it\u2019ll be summer; the next day, a blizzard. So the people are more than willing to sacrifice space in their living rooms and bedrooms and clear clutter to prepare for the topsy-turvy weather. It\u2019s just the name of the game for every Indiana native.<\/p>\n<h2>5. There simply aren\u2019t any in Warren County. But it makes no difference to the people, because they don\u2019t need them. They\u2019ve developed built-in night vision. They see everything. And it makes sense, with so much open space, long roads, endless fields, and that small-town feel of the airy open country?<br \/>\nImagine the level of sensory explosion when they visit downtown Chicago. Which, as you\u2019ll recall, is really just Northern Indiana anyway.<\/p>\n<h2>6. Laughing When An Outsider Describes Their Idea Of A \u201cSmall Town\u201d<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 600px\" alt=\"Southern Indiana Understand\" src=\"http:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/citybuzz\/2014\/06\/southern-indiana-understand\/southern-indiana-understand-8.gif\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"source\">Source: Giphy<\/div>\n<p>Sure, you might come from a \u201csmall town.\u201d Like, 5,000 people? Sure, that\u2019s small. But you\u2019ll just get laughed at in Jonesville, Indiana. The term \u201csmall town\u201d doesn\u2019t even cut it when talking about Jonesville \u2014 with a teensy population of 170, covering an area only slightly larger than an NFL stadium.<br \/>\nSo don\u2019t even bother to brag about how small your town is. These people aren\u2019t buying it.<\/p>\n<h2>7. And they aren\u2019t afraid to show their devotion. They express their love with Brookston\u2019s Apple Popcorn Festival, Mitchell\u2019s Persimmon Festival, Starlight\u2019s Strawberry Festival, Vevay\u2019s Swiss Wine Festival, and several more all over the state.<\/p>\n<h2>8. Northern Indiana Is Really Chicago<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 600px\" alt=\"Southern Indiana Understand\" src=\"http:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/citybuzz\/2014\/06\/southern-indiana-understand\/southern-indiana-understand-1.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"source\">Flickr user vxla<\/div>\n<p>For Southern Indianans the line between Indiana, The Windy City and Michigan is a little blurred. Heck, there\u2019s even a little town up there in northern Indiana called \u201cMichigan City!&#8221; Confusing, right? Southern Indiana natives have a hard time looking up north knowing that the tiny little part of the state serves as merely the \u201ccrossroads\u201d between Illinois and Michigan. They think it might as well be both Illinois <em>and<\/em> Michigan.<br \/>\nThese southern Indiana residents can get confused real easy. For them, traveling up north could be like crossing a couple borders all by itself.<\/p>\n<h2>9. No One Goes Near The Purple Head Bridge. Seriously, the kind of readings the Ghostbusters would giggle with glee over.<br \/>\nYou won\u2019t find locals getting anywhere near it, though. If they ever had to, you\u2019d see some crazy camera-shaking ghost stuff going on and they\u2019d scream bloody murder and tell you all about the history of the bridge and the spirits seen at night in hushed whispers.<\/p>\n<h2>10. Of course it\u2019s a thing. And if you haven\u2019t done it, you\u2019ve never truly lived. Building a corn maze? Talk about nurturing the soul.<br \/>\nSouthern Indianans do get irritated when they hear people say there\u2019s nothing to do there, and they hear that a lot. But they know the truth. After all, how could anyone say that Indiana\u2019s boring? You\u2019re on your toes with the hot-cold revolving weather, and that haunted bridge can make any cheesy horror movie a true screamer!
