Then you wake up to 11 inches of snow and you remember that, in Maine, winter is always coming. And don\u2019t even think about wearing your pajamas inside out and hopin\u2019 for school to get called off for a snow day. That\u2019s because we handle our snow like no other city in America: we bulldoze it and move on\u2026<\/p>\n<h2>2. The Letter \u201cR\u201d Is Wicked Overrated: It\u2019s \u201cLobst<em>ah<\/em>,\u201d Not Lobster<\/h2>\n<p>Our even more pronounced Boston-like accent (if you can imagine it) is our signature: \u201cI know ya uncle\u2019s mothah\u2019s brothah\u201d (commonly heard around here, seeing as everyone knows everyone in spite of the fact it\u2019s a state the size of Ireland). So what do you say? Wanna go for a ride in the cah to Bah Habah?<\/p>\n<h2>3. Mainers Are Really Just North Bostonahs\u2014Or South Quebecers, Eh?<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/citybuzz\/2014\/04\/maine-understand\/maine_stereotypes_3.jpg\" alt=\"Only People From Maine Understand\" style=\"width:600px\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"source\">Source: Flickr users aussiegall, mr. Ducke<\/div>\n<p>In Southern Maine, they root exclusively for Boston sports teams (Celtics, Pats, Red Sox). There are too many custom plates that say: I &lt;3 BSOX. Just way too many. Seriously, between the accent and their intense love for the city of Boston, you\u2019d think they were straight out of Massachusetts. But go a bit further North and it\u2019s a whole different story, you\u2019ll be eating crepes and speaking French Canadian in no time\u2026eh?<\/p>\n<h2>4. Knowing The Proper Way To Crash Into A Moose<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/citybuzz\/2014\/04\/maine-understand\/maine_stereotypes_4.jpg\" alt=\"Only People From Maine Understand\" style=\"width:600px\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"source\">Source: google images<\/div>\n<p>There\u2019s a reason for all that fear mongering in drivers ed about Maine moose: There is anywhere between 60,000 and 70,000 Moose in Maine. And all that moose means Mainers have a unique, antlered road hazard. While it\u2019s not necessarily true that you\u2019re guaranteed to see one while you\u2019re driving through Maine, we always know they\u2019re looming in the forests waiting for the perfect moment to walk casually out into the middle of the road and cause their massive moose destruction.<\/p>\n<h2>5. If You Don\u2019t Eat Lobster, You\u2019re Not A Real Mainer. Period. GASP! In Maine, people take a lack of lobster love very seriously. In addition to the W.T.F gasps, you\u2019ll also be on the receiving end of a look of sheer disbelief and disdain\u2014you know, the one that says, \u201cAnd you call yourself a Mainer?\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>6. AKA: anyone not-from-Maine.<\/p>\n<h2>8. Their heart smiles when we see the LL Bean car. And when they see that quintessential LL Bean mom sweater that all Mainer Mom\u2019s wear? It\u2019s like someone wove home from fabric.<\/p>\n<h2>9. They don\u2019t care that it\u2019s disgusting syrup fest, because it\u2019s <em>theirs<\/em>. They\u2019re super proud of it, just like they take pride in anything else \u201cMaine.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>10. When we travel outside of Maine and someone offers us their version of a whoopie pie, we have to conceal our laughter at their inferior whoopie.
