\nChances are, if you poll a random set of people about the most exciting cities in the U.S.<\/a>, you\u2019ll hear a lot of the usual suspects: New York City<\/a>, Los Angeles<\/a>, and Seattle<\/a>. You\u2019ll also find just as many people who will tell you that all these cities are overrated. So, how can we determine in no uncertain terms which cities are the most exciting places in the country?<\/span>
\nWe decided to rely on cold, hard facts, and the results might surprise you (Los Angeles and Chicago didn\u2019t crack the top 10). Sure, there are some predictable places that made the cut (New York included), but there were a few less obvious gems that stood up to our criteria for the most exciting cities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How We Ranked America’s Most Exciting Cities<\/span><\/h2>\n

\nTo formulate our list of exciting cities, we selected 10 criteria that people typically associate with exciting places to live. We then found the 50 most populous cities in the country and analyzed each city\u2019s available amenities in these categories per person or per square mile\u2014whichever made more sense for the category. We only looked within city limits, so these analyses are not based on entire metro areas.<\/span>
