Jacksonville has a diverse art scene with several art institutions and galleries in the city. The MOCA Jacksonville has a collection that focuses on the period of 1960 to the present and has a permanent collection of nearly 1,000 works. The museum also hosts temporary exhibits. Free admission to the MOCA is available on Wednesday evenings and is free for families on Sunday.
The Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens has a collection of over 5,000 works covering a time frame of more than 8,000 years. An additional highlight of this museum is the 1.5 acres historical garden. It’s a wonderful place to relax and enjoy some quiet time away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Get Sporty
For the sports lover in you, Jacksonville has several professional teams. Perhaps the most notable team is the Jacksonville Jaguars, an NFL football team. The Jaguars play at EverBank Field. Other professional teams include the Dixie (women’s American football), Suns (baseball), Sharks (arena football), Axemen (rugby leagues) and Giants (ABA basketball).
For those of you who like to play sports instead of watching it, there are many opportunities for local team sports. Also, the Jacksonville area is a golfer’s dream with over 60 courses in the five-county area.
Relax in the Parks
With over 80,000 acres of park space over 337 locations, Jacksonville is a paradise for those that like parks and open space. When temperatures heat up and you want some shade, four great parks to keep in mind are Landon Park, Sunshine Playground, Clark House Park and South Beach Park. The city also does an annual Movie in the Park series where popular and family-friendly movies are projected on a screen along the river. People bring their own chairs and picnic supplies for a fun evening out.

There are plenty of shopping opportunities in Jacksonville. Including malls, downtown retail, beachside shops, trendy boutiques and outlet malls.
