2. “The Beaches Here Suck!”
With some of the least crowded, most pristine beaches in the country, the shorelines here are no joke. If you’re looking for a great place to enjoy some sunshine with your toes in the sand, Virginia is the place for you.
3. “I’m Not A Big Fan Of Boiled Peanuts”
There are few things more “Virginia” than the peanut and the favorite way to chow down on these legumes here is in salty, boiled, roadside form.
4. “It’s Basically The Same As West Virginia”
While both states share the “Virginia” part of their name, that’s about where the similarities between the two stop. If you grew up in Virginia, West Virginia can seem like a completely different world.
5. “There’s No Reason To Think This State Is Haunted”
With several gruesome battles taking place in the Virginia area during the Civil War, it’s easy to argue that a few spirits are still hanging around. Whether you believe in ghosts or not, you’ll probably hear a few unexplained creaks and bumps during the night in this state.

It’s pretty difficult for a Virginian to keep their hands off these pockets of sweet, flaky goodness. Often filled with various types of fruit, there’s never a reason not to stick a fried pie in your mouth in this state.

It’s easy to tell there’s a huge military population in Virginia thanks to the countless uniformed men and women roaming the city streets and the 27 bases scattered around the state that you regularly pass while driving.

Virginians might not whip out this beachy folk dance often but when it comes out, it comes out hard. Fortunately, pretty much every Virginian learned this one in grade school.

No two recipes are alike when it comes to this Virginian dish, but they’re all delicious. You’ll rarely see a Virginian turn down a bowl of this meaty soup filled with tomatoes and veggies.
11. “Is Busch Gardens A Nature Walk?”
While Busch Gardens might be a pretty place to take a stroll, no one comes here for the plants. With 53 amusement park rides including 6 roller coasters, this is the most intense “garden” you’ll ever go to.

Virginians might love their state, but that doesn’t keep them from visiting other places. A favorite vacation destination for people in this state, most Virginians are well familiar with North Carolina’s beautiful Outer Banks area, also known by the acronym OBX.
13. “There’s Really Nothing Special About Smithfield Ham”
The food this state is famous for, it’s hard to beat the flavor present in each succulent piece of Smithfield ham. Typically made from peanut-fed hogs before being salt cured for at least 6 months, you’ll never find a better piece of meat.
14. “The Winters Here Will Keep You Inside For Months”
While Virginians have a tendency to panic when the mere possibility of flurries are mentioned, the colder months here aren’t really anything to complain about. A little bit of snow might fall, but it will be gone soon enough.
15. “I’ve Never Cracked A Crab Before”
This coastal state might be more famous for ham than seafood, but the crabs here are pretty darn amazing. Every Virginian is well aware how to get the meat out of these little critters.
16. “Virginia Is Alright, But I Can’t Wait To Leave”
There’s no question about it, if you’re a born and raised a Virginian, then you’ll be a Virginian for life. Other states might be worth checking out from time to time, but you’ll always want to call Old Dominion home.
