Your dog is more than just a pet. He becomes a part of your family. As such, when you are moving, you have to consider how well a neighborhood can meet the needs of your dog. If your dog loves going outside to play, you may want to look into dog parks in the area and what amenities they offer. If you are looking into the Sacramento area, learning where great dog parks are may help you narrow down neighborhoods that meet your needs, as well as your furry friend’s needs. Here are five of the top Sacramento dog parks that your pooch will love.
1. Partner Park
Partner Park is a park found in the Land Park area of Sacramento. This is both a traditional park and a dog park. The park features a large, fenced-in area where you can take your dog off the leash and allow him to roam around free. There are plenty of potty clean-up bags, garbage cans and watering stations. The gated in area also features hilly and flat areas and sunny and shady spots, allowing your dog to play in the environment he feels most comfortable in. The park is located right off the freeway, so it is easily accessible. The one downside to this park is that there is not a separate large dog and small dog playing pen. This makes for a large playing areas for dogs of all sizes. However, if your small dog does not interact well with large dogs, or vice versa, this may not be the ideal dog park for you.
2. Sutter’s Landing Park
Sutter’s Landing Park is located in the heart of the downtown area. It is a large park complete with basketball courts, bike trails and of course, a large dog park. The dog park portion of the dog is approximately 2.5 acres. It features two large fenced-in pens. One of the pens is for small dogs and the other is for large dogs. This means that this is an off-leash park, allowing your dog the opportunity to run free and play outside. There is plenty of seating for dog owner’s, shade for dogs on hot days and watering stations. It is easily accessible by car, lightrail, or walking for those who live or work in the area.
3. Hagan Community Dog Park
Hagan Community Dog Park is located in Rancho Cordova. Unlike many dog parks, this dog park is actually divided up into three different sections. One for small dogs, one for medium-sized dogs and one for large dogs. Each section is fenced in, so your dog can run around off leash. The three sections are sized differently, with the pen for small dogs being sized slightly smaller and the largest pen being designated for large dogs. It is also important to note that the amount of shade varies based on the pen. The larger sized pen has many shade trees, while trees are scarce in the small pen. However, the park makes sure all animals can stay cool even on the warmest days by placing plastic wading pools in the pens for the dogs to splash around in. Another great feature about this dog park is that the edges of the pens are lined with concrete walkways, so pet owners can stay on the concrete and not have to worry about stepping in muddy grass after the rain, or pet droppings owners failed to clean. There are also plenty of watering stations at this park.
4. North Natomas Regional Park
Located in the Natomas area of Sacramento, the North Natomas Regional Park is one of the newest parks in the area. It features a playground, dining area, trails and a dog park. There is also a large watering station in both pens and plenty of bench-style seating for dog owners.
5. Phoenix Dog Park
In the Fair Oaks area, Phoenix Dog Park is one of the best dog parks. It is a large, grassy dog park. One of the best features of this dog parks is that the grass covers the entire dog park area and is green and lush. The grass in most dog parks is not so lush, because it turns brown as dogs urinate on it. However, the upkeep at this park is superb with amazingly green grass. The park also supplies the dog with toys to play with including dogs and Frisbees. There are two dog pens; one for large dogs and the other for dogs under 25 pounds.
