COVID-19 has affected all aspects of life, making things as simple as going to the grocery store a stressful task. Moving, while not easy to begin with, has been made even more difficult with the pandemic. From being around other people such as movers, allowing contractors into your new home, and making frequent trips to the stores, there isn’t much COVID-19 hasn’t had an impact on.
Luckily, moving during the pandemic doesn’t have to be as stressful as it seems to be. There are still things you can do to help make the moving process safer and easier. Keep reading to learn more.
1. Limit the number of people who enter your new home
As you move into a new home, it’s likely that many people will be coming in and out of your home at once. If you can, limit the number of people you have in your home at once and over time. If you have many different contractors entering your home to fix things, this can easily be a problem. Stick to one contractor instead of using a home warranty company for the time being and delay any non-urgent appointments until it is safer.Â
2. Ask contractors about safety measures
Before you hire a contractor or a moving company, ask them about what measures they are taking to ensure the safety of themselves and their clients during the pandemic. Do they require employees to wear masks? Do they take their employees’ temperatures before going out on a job? Have they made any employees quarantine? These are all important questions to ask.
3. Always wear a mask
When you’re moving and other people are around, wear a mask. Bumping into people and breathing heavily while moving is common, so the more you wear a mask, the safer you’ll make the moving experience for everyone. This step should be taken when you aren’t with anyone living in your household.
4. Maintain at least a 6-foot distance from anyone
In addition to wearing a mask, you should keep your distance from others when possible. If there are large items that need to be moved and it’s necessary to stand next to someone, keep your mask on or leave it to the professional moving company.
5. Limit trips in public
Taking trips to the store during a move is unavoidable, as you’ll probably need all types of supplies, food, and other things. But, if you can limit the time spent in public and the number of trips you take, you’ll be safer. Buying things in bulk may help as you won’t need to return to the store as soon as you would otherwise.
By taking these tips into consideration when moving, you’ll make for a better moving experience for everyone involved. Contractors have probably been in many other homes, which can potentially expose you to COVID-19 if anyone is asymptomatic. So, the more measures you take to protect yourself, the safer you’ll be. Good luck moving!
