Attracting tons of local vendors, musicians, and general weirdos, you never know what you’ll see at the Keep Austin Weird Festival. If it’s your first time there, I’d recommend donning your most bizarre outfit and signing up for the 5k.

A great way to experience a slice of Brazil without an expensive plane ticket, Carnaval Brasileiro is filled with tons of cultural dancing, music, and costumes. If you’re considering bringing the family along, be aware that quite a bit of skin gets shown off at this celebration. A festival that’s truly one-of-a-kind in America, this Carnaval is one Austin event you can’t afford to miss.

38 years in the making, the O. Henry Pun-Off World Championship never ceases to amaze. With tons of wacky wordplay and creatively Krafted lines, you never know what will come of each participant’s mouth. It’s one of the most unique performances in the country and just another little thing that makes Austin a bit weird. It’s definitely nacho average mic night.

Who doesn’t love good chocolate? Potentially one of the most decadent events you’ll ever attend, the Austin Chocolate Festival is the perfect way to give your sweet tooth a workout. Typically taking place in the fall, this festival brings out tons of local chocolate artisans seeking taste testers. The attendees even get the chance vote for their favorites and a chocolate king or queen is crowned.

Few things are as visually appealing as a sky filled with soaring kites and one of the best places to experience this is right in Austin at the Zilker Kite Festival. Open to anyone who wants to participate, awards are given out for things like the steadiest kite, the strongest pulling kite, and the smallest kite.

Attracting over 75,000 people every day during two consecutive three-day weekends, the Austin City Limits Music Festival keeps their eight stages constantly pumping out live music seemingly all day. Huge artists come through every year including past acts like Dave Matthews Band, Pearl Jam, and Coldplay. This is one music festival that rivals the best in the world.
10. Remember Why You Love Austin Events So Much At South By Southwest
If there’s one event that could overshadow the Austin City Limits Music Festival it’s South by Southwest, commonly referred to as SXSW, the largest music festival of its type in the world.
With over 2,000 official acts performing in more than 100 venues, this event doesn’t stop at just the music. There’s also a huge film festival and something called SXSW Interactive where attendees get a first-hand look at some of the coolest new technology around.
