Few things are more “Ohio” than a Buckeye. Once this tiny nut is unshelled, it reveals a very recognizable shiny dark brown shell with a tiny tan patch.

Don’t plan on snacking on this famous nut. It’s poisonous unless certain boiling processes are used to remove toxins. Instead, snack on this nut’s candy look-a-like, chocolate coated peanut butter balls.
3. “Which One Of The C’s Is That By?”
While Ohio does have 3 huge cities, not everything is super close to one of these metropolises. It can get pretty annoying when people keep trying to lump tiny towns across the state in with Cincinnati, Columbus, or Cleveland when there’s really no connection.

By this point, everyone in Ohio is tired of sharing their opinions about this NBA superstar. First he was a hometown hero, then he left for another team, and now he’s back…it’s complicated. Hey, I don’t just ask you about how you feel about your crazy on-again-off-again ex, do I?
5. “What’s The Deal With Cincinnati Chili?”
Love it or hate it, Cincinnati is home to some of the most unique chili around. Using spices like cinnamon on their long list of ingredients, this regional dish can’t be beat when it’s served up in “3-way” form with spaghetti, chili, and tons of cheese.
6. “Have You Seen The Cleveland Tourism Video?”
If someone is from Ohio and they’ve spent a minimal amount of time on the internet, it’s safe to assume that they have indeed seen the infamous Cleveland tourism video. While this video makes Cleveland look truly abysmal, it’s actually not that bad at all.
7. “How’s The Forecast Today?”
Predicting the weather in Ohio tends to be pretty impossible. Sunshine one hour might mean you’re in for snow the next. It’s always best to plan ahead for whatever might hit before you leave the house for the day.
8. “Isn’t Miami In Florida?”
Miami might be in Florida, but Miami University is in Oxford, Ohio. With over 20,000 students system-wide, this school is the 10th oldest public university in the country. Get to know it, out-of-towners.
9. “How Could You Cheer For The Browns?”
The Browns might not have the best post-season luck, but no true fan will ever be caught questioning their love for this team. With the largest fan-base in the country, if you’re cheering on this Cleveland team, you’re in good company.
10. “What’s That Arm Thing Again?”
It’s simple, but people mess it up all the time. It’s basically like the Y-M-C-A dance move, except you spell O-H-I-O instead and you hold it. Oh, and it’s actually cool.

11. “Who’s Jake?”
Known around Cleveland for throwing the best parties in town, the Jake is something locals aren’t quite willing to let go of. While the official name of the Indians’ stadium is now Progressive Field, locals will always call the stadium “the Jake.”

No state goes crazier for the presidential election than Ohio. Famous for being a swing state, politicians can’t help but stop through the Buckeye State on their campaign tour.

The only US state to break the norm, Ohio’s flag looks like there’s been a triangle of fabric cut out of one end. Many assume that this flag plays homage to cavalry flags used during the Civil War.

The second warm weather hits this state, the roads seem to turn orange with traffic cones. Thanks to the strange weather during the colder months, construction crews seem to save all their work for summer.

There’s a huge Amish population in Ohio and one of the side effects are tons of buggies on the roadways. Just hope you don’t get caught behind a slow one in a no-pass zone.

First, it’s not a hot dog, it’s a kielbasa. And second, it’s delicious and you should try it. Topped with fries, barbecue sauce, and coleslaw, this Cleveland favorite is one of the most unique snacks around.
17. “Jerry Springer Was A Mayor Here?”
It might be hard to believe, but it’s true…the man known for hosting a talk show that’s infamous for fist fights and naked bodies was indeed the mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio. His career definitely took an interesting turn.
18. “Is Ohio University The Same As OSU?”
It still confuses outsiders, but it should be common knowledge that just because two schools have the word “Ohio” in their name doesn’t make them the same. There’s OSU, which is the Ohio State University, and there’s OU, which is Ohio University headquartered in Athens.
19. “Did Rock N Roll Really Start In Cleveland?”
Other states might claim to be the birthplace of rock n’ roll, but Cleveland has the story to prove it.
Local Cleveland disc jockey Alan Freed was the first person to coin the phrase “rock and roll” and is also known for heavily promoting this genre leading to the first major rock concert, the Moondog Coronation Ball.
20. “Didn’t Your River Catch On Fire?”
It did…at least 13 documented times actually. During the 1900s the Cuyahoga was one of the most polluted rivers in the entire country. However, since then it’s cleaned up its act…sometimes you even see people swimming in the water.

21. “What’s In Goetta?”
A Cincinnati favorite when it comes to breakfast sausage, goetta is made up of ground meat, oats, and spices. Don’t knock it ‘til you try it.
22. “Is Brutus Just A Big Talking Nut?”
Technically, yes. The beloved Brutus Buckeye has been cheering on this state’s favorite college team since 1965 and he won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.

With both Browns fans and Bengals fans hating the Steelers, it’s not surprising that everything Pittsburgh isn’t held too highly in the Buckeye State.
It probably didn’t help when Lima, Ohio-born Ben Roethlisberger left his outstanding career as quarterback at Miami of Ohio only to don the terrible black and yellow a state away.
24. “How Did The Bengals Get Cursed?”
Much like the Browns, the Bengals haven’t experienced much post-season success as of late. Many fans attribute this to a curse that stems from the injury of Bo Jackson during the 1990 season.
25. “How Do You Pronounce Cuyahoga?”
Constantly debated amongst experts, the pronunciation that’s generally accepted around these parts is “ky-uh-hoe-gah”, but you’ll always have people that say something else.
26. “Why Do You Hate Michigan So Much?”
Thanks to a bitter rivalry between the Buckeyes and the Michigan Wolverines, these two states will probably never be on good terms. If you’re a fan of the blue and gold, it’s best that you wait until you’re out of this state before sporting their colors.

Ohio tends to get a bad rap around the country, but it’s actually pretty awesome. With three huge yet distinct cities, tons of awesome sports teams, unforgettable cuisine, and plenty of natural beauty, Ohio is one state that can’t be missed.
