Man’s best friend deserves the best, and that means giving them the opportunity to get outdoors in a wide-open area where they can explore and interact with other dogs. The best way to give a beloved pet this outdoor interaction is to take them to a dog park that has an off-leash area. Luckily, there are several great dog parks to choose from if you live in Salt Lake City. Here are your top 5 options when it’s time to take your best buddy out for a great time and some good exercise.
1. Memory Grove Park – 300 North Canyon Road
Memory Grove is not only a great park for humans but for dogs as well. In addition to having walking and jogging routes that extend into the mountain to the northeast, this park also has a beautiful off-leash dog area that your pup will love. Dogs have free reign to take a dip in the creek in this area if they want. The area is unfenced, but narrow paths help keep the dogs from wandering off too far. There’s also an off-leash dirt path for dogs that runs parallel to the paved biking and hiking trail. The park is 8.75 acres in total and is also home to the historic Memorial House.
2. Utah Dog Park – 1977 North Temple
A highly rated overnight boarding and cage less daycare establishment, Utah Dog Park has recently added an indoor/outdoor dog park to their facility that’s open to the public. Both the indoor and outdoor areas are well-lit, making it a great place to take your dog during bad weather or at night. The facility is cleaned daily, and vaccination and other health requirements ensure that all the dogs have a safe place to play. All dogs over 8 months old must be spayed or neutered as well. The entry cost is $5, or you can get a 10-visit pass for $45. If you plan on going to the facility daily or nearly every day, Utah Dog Park also offers an unlimited monthly pass for $100. The facility is open Monday-Friday from 3-7 PM and Saturday-Sunday from 10 AM to 6 PM. While the other dog parks on this list are free, taking your canine companion to Utah Dog Park may be worth it to you to have a clean, well-lit facility where both you and your dog will be safe and comfortable at all times.
3. Lindsey Gardens – 426 N M Street (800 E)
There’s an off-leash area in the southeast corner of Lindsey Gardens, but many dog owners use most of the entire 15.25-acre area when the ball diamonds aren’t in use. The off-leash area is one of the most beautiful parts of the park with its grassy hill and surrounding trees. The park is bordered by woods on the north and a cemetery to the east, making it a fairly private location. You should exercise caution, however, because the dog park is not fenced in. Lindsey Gardens lies in the historic Avenues neighborhood of Salt Lake City, which is on the northeast bench of the Wasatch Mountains.
4. Parley’s Nature Reserve – 2740 S 2700 E
Situated at the mouth of Parley’s Canyon, Parley’s Nature Reserve features a river that runs the entire length of the park that dogs can access at various designated areas. The off-leash area is behind Tanner Park, and dogs need to be kept on a leash while they go through the park to get to this area. Make sure to pay attention to the signs that designate which areas are on- and off-leash as well. There are many paths for your furry friend to explore here, and the reserve is quite scenic. The park also features hiking and biking trails and is a great place for bird watching for both you and your dog. As an historic area, Parley’s Nature Reserve has more rules than your typical dog park. By following these rules, though, you can ensure that the reserve stays beautiful and both you and your dog have blast each time you bring them to this beautiful place. You can access the park at pretty much any time, as the hours are 5:00 AM to 11:00 PM.
5. Rotary Glen Park – 800 South 2270 East
Are you looking for a park where your best friend can go for a swim? Try Rotary Glen Park, which is just east of Hogle Zoo. This park has a large pond in the middle that dogs are free to jump into and swim around in. Though the area is fenced in, you should keep a close eye on your dog because the park is not far from a busy road. Since the pond is quite large, several dogs can play in it at the same time. As there are no water hookups and it’s likely that your pooch will get muddy after swimming, bringing a large jug of water and some towels with you is a good idea. Rotary Glen Park is 24.5 acres, so there is also plenty of room for your dog to play around the pond as well.
