Apparently the market for luxury penthouses didn’t get the memo about the steep drop in home prices. Or at least that’s the conclusion one has to come to upon seeing the prices for a few select luxury penthouses from metropolitan areas across the United States.
Yahoo! Real Estate and Forbes, along with some assistance from other entities (including Prudential Douglas Elliman Real Estate, Sotheby’s International Realty, Coldwell Banker Previews International, Realtor.com, and Trulia.com), recently teamed up to write about a small sample of properties from the only real estate market that has seen record purchases as of late — or any significant traction at all, really: the luxury residential real estate market. Despite these penthouses ranging in price between $2 million and $45 million or more, this market has actually picked up throughout the U.S. during the recession, thanks in large part to wealthy, cash-only foreign buyers seizing upon the weaker dollar and investing in the luxe condo market along both coasts.
These properties, if you can afford them, though, are well worth the hefty price tags, especially once you see what kind of amenities they have in store for luxury buyers. Below are 5 such luxury penthouses, with many of their amenities listed out to make perusing them easier. (I took the liberty of arranging them in order of lowest to highest price.) Are they affordable? Definitely not for the average person, no. But are they lust-worthy? You better believe they are.
