New York is the third most populated state in the country, home to around 19.5 million people most of whom live within the New York City area. With so many people you can imagine that crime would be high, but if this is a concern for you, why not head to one of the smaller towns in the state, where crime is virtually non-existent? Here the 10 safest cities in New York:

Burdett

Burdett is a prime example – just 357 people live in this historic little village in Schuyler County, and crime is far from their minds. Burdett is the safest place in New York, with its Crime Index of 100 – 100 being the safest – and you’ll find the village on New York State Route 79.

Pleasantville

With a name like Pleasantville this has got to be a nice place to live! It’s the second safest place in New York so crime isn’t really a problem when the Crime Index is 99. Pleasantville is a village home to around 7,000 people and it’s in Westchester County, within the town of Mount Pleasant.

Great Neck Estates

The village of Great Neck Estates is in the town of North Hempstead in Nassau County and it’s the third safest place to live in New York. The Crime Index is 99 so there’s not much crime going on for the more than 2,700 people who live here, making this a great place for families.

Speculator

About 325 people live in the little village of Speculator, yet many thousands visit each year for the all season recreation. Even so, this is still the fourth safest place in New York and has a Crime Index of 99. Speculator is set within the beautiful Adirondack Park.

Sinclairville

Right in the west of New York State is the village of Sinclairville, just a little way north of the city of Jamestown. Sinclairville has a population of around 590 people and a Crime Index of 98, making it the fifth safest city in New York.

Vermontville was named by settlers from neighboring Vermont in the 19th century. Today it’s just a hamlet but has around 2,500 people living within its borders. Vermontville is close to the state line with Vermont, in Franklin County, and it’s the sixth safest community in New York State with a Crime Index of 98.

Tuckahoe

Tuckahoe village is right in the south of New York State, in Westchester County. It’s a prime commuting village being only around 30 minutes from New York City’s Grand Central Terminal, and it’s a safe place to live too. Ranked seventh safest in New York, Tuckahoe has a Crime index of 98 and is home to nearly 6,500 people.

Oyster Bay Cove

The Village of Oyster Bay Cove is known as an affluent community and it’s also one of the safest in the state. Oyster Bay Cove comes in with a Crime Index of 98 and is the eighth safest place to live in New York State. Located within the Town of Oyster Bay, in Nassau County, the village has a scenic setting on the water.

Golden’s Bridge

About 1,600 people live in the hamlet of Golden’s Bridge, within the town of Lewisboro in Westchester County. Rocky hills, plenty of forest, and being close to rivers and lakes makes Golden’s Bridge a scenic place to call home, and it’s safe too. The crime index is 98 and it’s ranked the ninth safest place in New York.

The tenth safest community in New York is Bellerose, a village in Nassau County that’s within the Town of Hempstead, bordering on Queens County. About 1,100 people live in Bellerose and the village was founded in 1907 with the plan of making it a model community. Today it is fairly model when it comes to crime – the Crime index is a safe 98!
