Sacramento is a vibrant city with plenty of attractions for all age groups. The city offers history and museums and has a popular music scene. Restaurants and Cuisine in Sacramento

There are over 1,200 restaurants in Sacramento so you’ll never be short of a place to eat! And if you enjoy trying different cuisines you’ll love eating out in the city – there’s a very eclectic mix of cuisines available here from classic American to Indian, and everything in between. Sacramento is proud of the fact that many restaurants get their food directly from the local farms and the city started a marketing campaign as “America’s Farm-to-Fork Capital” because of this.
The top rated restaurant in the city, according to TripAdvisor, is The Kitchen, where a Contemporary American menu is served. Other restaurants within the top 10 include a Mexican, Nopalitos, and a Japanese sushi bar named Mikuni.

Attractions in Sacramento

When John Sutter built Sutter’s Fort in the 1840s he probably didn’t expect that the town would grow to become a state capital, but Sutter was responsible for the town being where it was, in the heart of an agricultural valley. If you’re interested in early Californian history Sutter’s Fort is definitely worth visiting. It’s been preserved as a State Historic Park and it’s centrally located in the Midtown neighborhood, so it’s easy to get to.
You can also check out some of Sacramento’s early history in Old Sacramento. This living historic district has a number of buildings preserved from the 1850 and 60s and it’s set on the riverfront. It’s a popular attraction with locals and tourists and you can enjoy rides on steam powered trains and boats from here, so kids will like it too!
Two of the city’s popular museums are located within Old Sacramento, the California State Railroad Museum, and the Sacramento History Museum, while elsewhere in the city is the State Indian Museum, and the Crocker Art Museum.
There are parts of the California State Capitol that could be considered a museum too, so be sure to take a free guided tour of the building for a chance to see the restored historic offices, legislative chambers, and more in this impressive historic capitol that was based on the US Capitol in Washington.

Parks and Recreation in Sacramento

Sacramento has many smaller parks within the city center while out towards the suburbs larger urban parks can be found. Discovery Park is close to the city and set on the banks of the American River where it meets the Sacramento River. The park covers about 300 acres, and it has trails, a picnic area, and sports facilities. Discovery Park is one of the main parks of the American River Parkway – a 23 mile parkway that runs along the American River.
