Social Media Profile Dont's

http://www.someecards.com/

In this world of social media everything, we are constantly creating profiles to display our credentials, interests, likes, +1s, and tweets. However, there are certain tactics that you may

want to avoid when creating profiles for business profiles. As real estate agents, many people are first introduced to you through your profile, so be careful on what you post.

Here are some major don’ts for your social media profiles
1. Use a nick name as your profile name
Sure, Extra Mile Kyle Stevenson probably gets some laughs for the rhythm, but do you want Extra Mile to be the agent name on the contract when you close on your million dollar house? The fake name might also make it harder for people to find your contact information, which would be a real downer. However, attending the school of hard knocks can’t hurt your street cred.
2. Use your name to make a catch phrase
I think David Tapper has a great nick name, Tap. It makes him memorable because it is a unique name that is easy to recall. However, the “Tap Producer” is a spelling mistake on the word top and shouldn’t be something to flaunt about. What happens when there is a spelling mistake on the offer and your bid gets canceled? Professionalism is the name of the game when someone is about to buy or sell a house.
3. Have a caricature as your profile picture
Pictures are a key part of real estate. People pick which homes to see by the picture, so they most certainly use pictures when trying to find an agent. Avoid having a donkey kong sized head in your profile pick (Even worse is the additional catch phrase!). I would keep the picture professional, and probably limit it to a head shot.
4. Throw up gang signs while holding a crystal
Just right off the bat, you might drop the crystal ball! Don’t want to lose your predictive powers! But come on, how does this help you meet with a potential client?

Many of these tactics are actually really funny and catchy; I just think they are better served on non-business related sites like Facebook. We are working on adding Movoto profiles and a beefed up MyMovoto soon, so get ready to add another profile to your collection.
