This school is good if you have a "perfect academic child." It is NOT the place to be if you have a gifted child with a learning disability. Lacks empathy for those children and too inflexible with different learning styles. Huge self-esteem deflater for our child. Read Full Review

What an amazing school! We have a graduate and a high school student, and we could not be more pleased with the school. It is very challenging, and the rules are enforced more here than at many other schools, and those are two reasons we chose this school. Our college sophomore had a great first year, due in large part to her experience at LNC. When her friends from CMS schools struggled to manage their coursework and the heavy reading and writing load in their classes, she breezed through her freshman year! The teachers here challenge their students every day--and the hard work pays off in many ways! The curriculum more than prepares students for life after high school, and the stricter rules help them learn to behave appropriately even after they have graduated. It is unfortunate that so many parents seem to want a "safe" school with good rules and strong academics---- until the rules and classroom expectations are applied to their students--then the school is inflexible or there is too much work. We have really appreciated the blessing of having our girls attend a great school where they can flourish! Read Full Review

An absolutely great school! One of the best in the state for test scores and college placement and I wouldnt want to send my kids anywhere else. To all those complaining below, consider the fact that your kid is still at the school because you know it is better than any other school aroundRead Full Review

This school has been good until recently. My son, an honor role student, was placed in a study hall against our wishes. When we contacted the principal, Terri Costa, we were basically called liars and told there would be no change...too ANY other class. I have never been treated as rudely. Hopefully, this principal will not be here long.Read Full Review

How fortunate we are to have our children be a part of this school community! LNC has caring, well-qualified staff and provide innovative, personalized instruction that has helped each of the kids find success. We are excited that in this upcoming school year that 1:1 technology will be provided to better help students to be organized and be ready and adaptable for the expectations of college and future careers. One thing that I really like is that my husband and I can get actively involved in partnering with the school in providing the best opportunity possible for all the students. Whether it is attending a coffee chat, volunteering at the school/school events or participating in focus groups...it is clear that our input matters. Read Full Review

Students are not encouraged. The environment is very rigid, not conducive to learning. Administration is not welcoming to parents - very arrogant. The electives for high school are EXTREMELY LIMITED. Read Full Review

This school does not keep the best interest of students in mind. Homework is overwhelming in both middle and high school. Many group projects. Electives in high school are very limited. Parents are bullied by administration. Communication is POOR! A college prep school doesn't mean slam students with meaningless work. Words that come to my mind to describe our years at LNC - rigid, bullied, arrogant, lifeless, rude, dull, dreaded. Read Full Review

Lake Norman Charter School We have three students attending LNC: 5th, 8th, and 10th grades. We have been very pleased with the level of education they are receiving. Our high school student has opportunities to take a variety of AP classes, and next year was even given the chance to attend classes at CPCC for dual enrollment. We are very excited about the 1:1 technology program launching next year, where all the students will have the use of an iPad for the school year. The teachers care, the administration is very involved, and the school is small enough to feel your child is getting the attention they deserve. Read Full Review

We love Lake Norman Charter. It has been a wonderful experience for my two children. The teachers and administration have been professional and high-quality. My 5th grade son has excelled this year and loves going to school. My 8th grader is challenged and has learned SO much at LNC. Looking forward to many more years at LNC as I still have a kindergartner to come!Read Full Review

LNC truly has a group of dedicated staff, students, and parents. Everyone involved in this school works together to make it the best learning/working environment that it can be. The staff take their classroom lessons "outside of the box", this enables the students to grasp the material in meaningful, creative modes. The entire school community believes in service to the school and the community. They strive to instill leadership qualities to the students. Our family has two graduates of LNC and they are presently very successful in rigorous university programs. They have continued to serve and volunteer in their universities.Read Full Review

I am a senior from LNC going to a prestigious college this fall. I am not unique. Many people have gotten into great schools such as UNC, NC State, Clemson, etc. In the end for LNC, it is about getting students into the best colleges and well prepared, which from my personal experience, they have done so. We have the highest SAT average in the area. The administration doesn't show bias towards one sex at all. They do however enforce a dress code, which some girls refuse to follow. They also enforce all other rules listed in the student handbook so if your student gets in trouble for their cell phone or gum it shouldn't be the admins fault for enforcing rules. For students who are willing to work hard, this school provides a challenge and from my conversation from previous graduates it provides great preparation for college. For the most part, the teachers truly want their students to succeed. AP classes are typically very well taught and unlike CMS, they are not the "new honors level." I have passed the 4 AP tests between sophomore and junior year, which could not have been accomplished without the teachers. My only complaint is the level of busy work that some teachers give.Read Full Review

Very rigid administration and teachers. Little flexibility and little encouragement for students. Arrogant, "better than everybody else" attitude permeates the school. Read Full Review

By and large the school is solid for students to learn and develop, however, the administration seems to think the can do whatever they want without including the parents. Watch out if things get tough the administration will clam up and hide behind policy and rhetoric. Unfortunately, families and students carry the school in lieu of solid admistrative leadership.Read Full Review

LNC is a wonderful school; you can't ask for a better school for your children. My advice for those who are not happy because they feel their children "don't love the process of education" is remove them and put them back in the wonderful CMS school system. You're free to go, no one is forced to stay.Read Full Review

I love Lake Norman Charter School! I love how they go beyond for their students and I have made so many friends here. The teachers push us to do our VERY best at all times but at the same time, they can be the very best teachers ever! My favorite teachers will always be from LNC and I always enjoy coming to school every day because the way LNC teacher teach, they make it fun to learn and easy to understand. I don't regret any leaving my old school, and I have learned so much more here. The teachers at LNC do their best so we can prep for the EOGs and so we can be ready for our next year of learning. This school is lottery based, so they only pick their students through a random lottery. I promise that you or your child will absolutely love it here! The principal is also SUPER nice (and very, very, pretty), and the vice principal is very nice too (and very, very, funny!), and I love this school, and I am glad I go here. I have been able to be challenged more than I was ever at my old school. They also have VERY unique and fun electives such as drama, dance, keyboarding,French,Spanish, media assistant, and much, much, more! I really enjoy going to this school, and I am glad I went here!Read Full Review

This is our child's first year at LNC, and we couldn't be more pleased. The teachers and staff have been so welcoming and have gone above and beyond to ensure that our daughter's potential is met. Communication between school and home is excellent, and the curriculum is challenging. The students are shown how to learn, lead, and serve at school and through the many clubs. We are thankful for LNC.Read Full Review

Here is what I think is very important to know about Lake Norman Charter school before you enroll your child. If you have a son who does not naturally love the process of public education, this school will be a nightmare for you and your family! The staff at LNC favors girls who sit quietly in their seats and like being dictated to. Boys do not have it so lucky there. They will tell you at the school orientation that they do a lot of hands on projects, outside of labs in science, we have done ONE hands on project in the three years we have been at the school. The leadership at the school lack as good role models for the student body. Most families just up and leave the school after they exhaust from the constant battle. So in short if you have a boy who is not strong in his own personal desire to succeed academically, you will regret sending your child! I am personally, daily, disappointing with the administrations inability to foster a love for learning in these children!! Lake Norman Charter has taught me the understanding of the saying "a mind is a terrible thing to waist" as boys spend more time in silent lunch and detention than learning useful material! Be ware moms!!Read Full Review
