Our school recently adopted a one-to-one program, which gives every student in 7-12 a MacBook Pro & the ability to learn in a "global atmosphere" in which students can connect with others. However, in my time at the HS l I have seen students on Twitter, Facebook, Minecraft, Netflix, Pinterest and every which thing which allows students to totally disconnect from the learning experience and the subpar teachers, which I will discuss later. Not to mention it is not even a useful tool. Our fairly new Superintendent found it imperative to adopt such a program with no empirical evidence that it would be successful in our district. Not only has it been unimpressive, it has actually brought the school's GPA, which has total causation. Folks, this is just the beginning. I am being told to end this however, so I would like to tell you, that the school is full of teachers who aren't prepping students for life, and I want to congratulate the only heroes in a high school full of those in need of a heroic classroom revamping: Michael Hunter, Bill Rudolph, Todd Crites, Dan Covino, and Elizabeth Hansen. Thank you for standing out and doing all you can to prep us for the future. Read Full Review

Grinnell schools are great if you are an average to intelligent kid, or great at a sport or an extracurricular. Not a lot of thought is given to anything outside the box, but that seems to be an Iowan trait. It's important to conform here and fit in. If you don't, good luck. There's a divide between town and gown kids, and it shows in the way the administration treats students. I think if you're good at being good, you'll do fine here. It's not an exceptional education but with nothing else available in the area it's your only choice. Read Full Review

I really like GHS. The sports are fun, and include everybody. Not to mention the Boys Cross Country team has been to state 4 years in a row. This school has excellent teachers, and a good educational program.Read Full Review

The atmosphere is great; everyone knows each other, creating a tightly-knit bond that you might not find at a bigger school. You can find support and help from every teacher and every student. As a student, you are encouraged to do the activities at which you excel but you are also pushed to try your limits and do new things. Read Full Review

GHS continues to be a top-notch school. It's challenging curriculum, extensive extra curricular opportunities, and dedicated faculty and staff continues to be on the leading edge of the changing world today. Our school prepares college bound students for academia, as well as those choosing to come into the workforce and our community. I say, our because the Grinnell community has an invested interest in our schools, and a deep commitment to its success. The students of GHS are great kids! Many students know the importance of giving back to the community and are involved in many community service projects. They provide good role models for our younger children in the community. The staff continues to go above and beyond to help each student. The principal and staff have created a very caring atmosphere at the high school. This then sets the tone for the students to care about each other also.Read Full Review

I was a problem child as a kid, and was sent away. I came back after being sent off in my Middle School years, and tried the High School for a short time. I gave up on it too soon, but I have a daughter and a nephew that go there currently. Like any mid-sized school, you have your ups and downs, popular and not popular kids. Grinnell school systems in gneral are very good, and I agree with the person who said it has excellent resources from Grinnell College, and maybe the community college too, which is only a couple blocks away.Read Full Review

I attended Grinnell High and graduated in 2006. The school has great academics and most of the teachers are wonderful with exception of few, whom everyone knows. The school allows a lot of behavior problems that need to be addressed. I know many people who had to leave the high school and go to an alternative school because of the harassment from other students. A lot of these kids that were harassing other students had no penalties for the actions. In Grinnell it matters who your parents, and depending on who they are, thats how the students will be treated. It's terrible but the honest truth. I suggest you take your children to another school, Brooklyn & Montezuma are not a far commute. Read Full Review

Grinnell High School is a good school academically, and has many more resources than most schools it's size, however, they will not allow homeschooled students who transfer in to graduate. Parents should also be aware that they also do not allow previously homeschooled students to be ranked in their individual class or to apply for any scholarships.Read Full Review

Grinnell is an incredible school system. Exceeding expectations in every possible way. The facilty is world class and encourages students to try harder - be smarter and want more from life. The community is blessed to have an excellent college as a fixture and resource. Students who want to achieve are encouraged to do so - students who have trouble - find support. This is education at its best. With a far better staff than many private schools - Grinnell has been a training ground for world changers and earth movers. Dreamers who dream big - and know how to pursue them. A wonderful place to be from and a joy to have learned there.Read Full Review

In the 1960's when attending Grinnell High School I felt the teachers were very qualified and desired to see each student do their best. I believe at that time the school was rated in the top 10% of the State of Iowa and in the top 2% of the nation overall. I am very grateful for the teachers who took time with me and cared about my education. Read Full Review
