I have attended Garner-Hayfield since I was in Kindergarten, and I am currently in 9th grade. I feel I must say that I believe it is by far one of the best schools in the area. Probably one of the best in the state. There is a great sense of safety and respect in the halls and in the classrooms. The teaching staff is excellent, and I would definitely recommend this school to anyone anywhere. As for the athletics program, our football team has a little yet to be desired, but our boys basketball seems to do well. The wrestling and track teams are great as well. This school also has a college fund for graduates from Garner. Garner-Hayfield also has an excellent arts program for those who are intrested. I would tell anyone who asked that I would recommend Garner over any other school that I know of!Read Full Review

I am currently a student at GHHS. I am a junior and I have attended the Garner-Hayfield school district since I was in 7th grade. Academically, the school has all the core requirements for level entry into any four year, or two year college. We have a variety of social communications classes, social studies, and environmental classes. Among those classes we also offer a wide variety of math classes to fit every student. The past couple of years we have been unsuccessful in football and basketball, this year we are undefeated in basketball *boys*, and the girls are behind one game. Our track, wrestling and cross country always prove to be our strongest points. As of every high school, there are clicks. They aren't profound, but you will notice them. Harassment is very uncommon. I am a graduate of garner hayfield . Garner has the best teachers and schooling around. The sports are not of the same quality. The only way a kid will be able to play is if their ability is obviously beter than anyone around. otherwise if your child is average ability, don't plan too much on your kid getting his or her fair share of playing time. The hallways at garner-hayfields are safe and disiplined to the point of a inner city schools, camera's in every hallway and outrageous rules and standards for the kids to abide by.Read Full Review

GHHS is a very good school, but the sports teams have very little success and I hold the coaching completely responsible. G-H also lacks a principal that is a good role model for the students. Safety should not be a concern because security cameras have been installed in 90% of the hallways.Read Full Review

I am also a graduate of GHHS and I consider my experience there to be very positive and uplifting. There are activities for students of all interests. The school is very involved with and supported by the community (which is also top notch). There was a high level of maturity and respect amongst students and staff which was not present in the district I opened enrolled from. I highly recommend GHHS to anyone who is considering a school in north central Iowa.Read Full Review

I disagree with that review. I was a graduate of Garner-Hayfield High School and I feel privilaged to have been able to attend that school. As for the comment about the athletics at Garner-Hayfield, it is incorrect. The elementry school principal has no authority over whether or not a student participates in Garner-Hayfield athletics, unless of course the student is being punished for breaking the code of conduct. Garner-Hayfield has a very strong tradition in sports and will continue to keep that great tradition alive.Read Full Review
