To create our list, Movoto Real Estate researched crime statistics across all neighborhoods in San Francisco. We looked at the total number of crimes in each neighborhood, which includes violent crimes and properties crimes. To normalize the data, allowing for a more accurate comparison, the information is presented as crimes per 100,000 residents.
5. Inner Richmond
One of five neighborhoods that make up the Richmond District, the Inner Richmond is safer than 85.3 percent of San Francisco neighborhoods. The area, bounded by California Street to the north, Arguello Boulevard to the east, Fulton Street to the south, and Park Presidio Boulevard to the west, has an estimated 1,878 total crimes annually per 100,000 residents. There are 264 violent crimes and 1,615 property crimes annually.

One of four smaller neighborhoods that make up The Sunset District, the Inner Sunset neighborhood is safer than 88.2 percent of neighborhoods in San Francisco. Additionally, those who live in the area have a 1 in 62 chance of being the victim of a property crime.
