1. We're All Beach Bums

Stereotypes About San Diego That Are Completely Accurate

San Diego has a long reputation as a surfing beach town and with good reason-we have some of the best beaches in the country. There's one for every mood and with mild temperatures and mostly sunny days it's hard to resist the call of the waves.

2. We're All A Bunch Of Brahs

The surfing culture permeates the city and even straight-laced business types let out their inner brah on the weekend. We like chilling out and drinking our delicious local brews while wearing our board shorts and flip flops.

3. We're All Obsessed Gym Rats

This one applies to SoCal in general, but as a NorCal transplant, the sheer number of people heading to the gym for an actual workout is a stark contrast to my home suburbs in the East Bay where people think yoga pants are just for running errands. But hey, when you're going to spend most of your time in shorts and sandals, you want to look good right?

4. Salute, Because Everyone Is Military

OK, not everyone but despite the growth around here in manufacturing industries like shipbuilding and toy-making, San Diego is still a huge military town, and odds are that young guy you run into at the bar is serving, was serving, or is related to someone serving. Want to know how to spot a former sailor or marine? Look for the "leave beard," the glorious facial hair that makes an appearance when on leave or when service is up.

5. We Don't Leave Home Without Our Flip Flops, Ever

You may find a few people trying to class it up with an actual sandal but let's be real here: flip flops were made for San Diego. The controversial but easy footwear is so pervasive, some bars and clubs have to specifically make rules against wearing flip flops.

6. We're Total Wimps About The Cold

So. True. It does get cold here sometimes, but not enough to warrant the parkas and snow gear that come out when it drops to the 40s during a cold snap. Still, considering most homes here don't have much in the way of central heating, 40 degrees is no picnic.

7. We're All Party Animals

A lot of this has to do with being such a hot spot for tourism, but San Diego is a great place to let loose-and we do.

8. We're That Other City In California. You Know, Not San Francisco And Not Quite L.A., The Other One

Despite having a population higher than some states, non-Californians sometimes forget that we're even here (except for maybe during Comic-Con). We may not be the cultural and political centers San Francisco and Los Angeles are, but we've got better tacos and less smog, so there.

9. We're All Clean Freaks

Unlike most other cities, San Diego is tidy-like, surprisingly so-and we wouldn't have it any other way. Street cleaners of San Diego, we salute you.

10. We Eat Mexican Food All Day, Every Day

And if you lived here, you would too.
