This architectural gem is George Washington Smith's crown jewel in the San Marino-Pasadena area. He is known as the father of the Spanish Revival style in California. Smith created his signature designs based on centuries-old Andalusian structures he had seen in his European travels. During 1924 Smith designed The Osthoff House. It is an adaptation of the facade of Smith's own house. The Osthoff House encompasses all of Smith's extraordinary artistic talent. From the enclosed courtyards, shady balcony, bubbling fountains, massive white stucco walls with double wall construction, rolling red tile roofs and wrought iron window grills to the hand painted ceilings, stenciled wood beams and beautiful Mexican tile used on the stairway risers and entry flooring are Smith's trademarks. The formal rooms are simply breathtaking. This estate is located just a few minutes walk to the Huntington Library on one of San Marino's most prestigious streets.
