If you’re young and in love, but not so in love with the traffic and prices in Atlanta, it may be time to start considering the suburbs. With the suggestions of three local Movoto real estate agents, Ron Racca, Tim Grissett, and Dean Gudlauski, we compiled a list of the some great Atlanta suburbs for young couples.

Two local real estate agents, Dean Gudlauski and Tim Grissett, recommended Smyrna for young couples. “It’s a trendy location that’s continuing to grow,” said Gudlauski, who mentioned Smyrna’s close proximity to the Cobb Galleria Centre, restaurants, and shopping. For new home buyers, this suburb is a fairly affordable option with a median home value of $206,900. From modern condos to single family and starter homes, there are plenty of options among the homes for sale in Smyrna. You’ll have plenty to do with events like Food Truck Tuesdays and live shows at the Summer Concert Series. The Smyrna Market Village, the pedestrian oriented downtown area, is a great place to shop, grab a bite to eat at Village Sushi, or just enjoy beautiful Georgia weather. Smyrna is about 20 to 40 minutes from downtown Atlanta (depending on traffic), which is perfect for young couples that want big city nightlife and entertainment nearby.

A variety of housing options, from new construction condos to spacious single-family homes and townhouses with room to grow, are available in this Atlanta suburb. You can browse unique boutiques in Historic Downtown Alpharetta, or shop until you drop at more than 100 retailers at North Point Mall. Local real estate agent Ron Racca recommends Alpharetta to young couples looking for a more family friendly environment with less traffic and crime than downtown Atlanta.

Gudluaski recommends this suburb because of its affordable housing, good schools, and abundance of entertainment and shopping. Stroll through the pedestrian-friendly downtown, enjoy beautiful Georgia weather at the Smith-Gilbert Gardens or grab a bite to eat at Food Truck Mondays and the Kennesaw Farmer’s Market. “It’s a bustling community,” said Gudluaski, who also noted Kennesaw’s proximity to Town Center at Cobb Mall and easy access to I-75. Though a trip to downtown Atlanta is just 25-45 minutes away, young couples in Kennesaw have plenty of places to explore in their own backyard.

Dunwoody, a suburb about 30 minutes from downtown Atlanta, is one of is one of Racca’s picks for best Atlanta suburbs for young couples. Home buyers looking for new construction condos and single family homes will find them in Dunwoody. Grab a bite to eat at local restaurants like Cafe Sababa or Wright’s Gormet Sandwich Shoppe, or plan a date at chic wine bar and New American restaurant Seasons 52. Local events like Dunwoody Art Festival are perfect for young couples. The family friendly environment and good schools make it a great place for families, too.

Marietta earns a spot as one of the best places near Atlanta for young couples thanks to a number of great amenities. Marietta residents enjoy a popular farmers market, the Cobb Museum of Art, the Marietta “Gone With the Wind” Museum, and 18 city parks. Home buyers in Marietta have a range of options. “Older homes can be more affordable, newer homes are quite pricey. This will cater to various levels of income with young couples,” said Gudlauski. Young couples looking toward the future are also in luck, since Marietta is also one of the best Atlanta suburbs for families. “The East Cobb area is well known for its excellence in schools,” said Gudlauski.

Browse local art at Spruill Center Gallery, grab a bite and a beer at 5 Seasons Brewing, or watch the sun set at scenic Morgan Falls Overlook Park.

According to Gudlauski, a well developed downtown “bustling with restaurants, entertainment, and seasonal events” makes North Decatur one of the best Atlanta suburbs for young couples. While home buyers can find affordable starter homes, single family homes, and apartments in North Decatur, they may have to hunt for one. “It can be a little pricier compared to communities outside of I-285 loop,” said Gudlauski. Convenient shopping at the North Dekalb Mall, hip local restaurants like Ink & Elm, and live music venues like Eddie’s Attic make this one of the best Atlanta suburbs to live, work, and play. Young couples who want a quick trip to Atlanta will be drawn to North Decatur for the 15 minute commute and MARTA trains.

Residents can grab brunch at Another Broken Egg Cafe, browse work by emerging artists at Vinings Gallery, or shop until they drop at the Vinings Jubilee shopping center, and trip to Atlanta is just 20 minutes by car.
