Very rarely do you see burgers and sushi being served in the same place, but somehow Cowfish pulls it off.  While this joint has your standard sushi rolls and burgers, they also have a creation that’s entirely their own…Burgushi.

Burgushi is a unique fusion that combines the best parts of burgers and sushi for a truly unforgettable meal. One popular “burgushi” item is the “Deliverance Roll,” which consists of pulled pork, onion, and BBQ sauce rolled in soy paper and potato strings. Then it’s flash-fried and topped with bacon coleslaw and chives.

The Prime Rib is probably the best thing on the menu, a melt-in-your-mouth steak paired perfectly with a homemade steak sauce.  If it’s your first time through the doors, it’s recommended that you try the 4 beer sampler to narrow down a favorite.

Woodlands Barbeque in Blowing Rock NC! It’s the best! U guys didn’t even go past Charlotte to WNC!

  2. C. Grant Starr

I’ve never had a bad meal in the 30+ years I’ve been visiting the OBX, but my go-to restaurant there is the Black Pelican. The OBX Brewing Station has excellent food, and their craft brews are outstanding. For what it’s worth, my favorite restaurant is Pho Hien Vuong in Greensboro, a Thai and Vietnamese place. Not easy to find, but well worth the effort. The basil chicken is one of the best things I’ve ever had in my life.

  3. Amy S

Spanky’s is definitely not on the water unless there is a puddle in the parking lot. There are many better eateries on the OBX! Red Drum, Mama Kwan’s, Tortugas, Kill Devil Grill. Seriously. How were these chosen?

  4. Terry

Rio Grande Mexican Cantina on New Garden Road, and on W. Friendly Avenue are both the best Mexican restaurants in the entire Triad, perhaps the state. Their tilapia on rice with cheese sauce is divine.

  5. Jim

    Awful Arthur’s …Kill Devil Hill

  6. Amy P

I was thinking the same. I live on the OBX and would have picked Mama Kwan’s for great, affordable food with a fun atmosphere. Blue Point or Aqua for special celebrations, but Spanky’s? Are these paid advertisements?

  7. Maureen

Towne Tap & Grill in the Mayfaire Towne Center, Wilmington. Reservations for parties of 6 or more. 910 256-6224.

We selected Butternut Squash Bisque from that evening’s soup offerings…delicately seasoned, rich and creamy consistency, perfect serving temperature. Grilled Hanger Steak exactly medium rare as ordered, served with Sauteed Spinach, Roasted Potato Chimichurri, Fresh Horseradish Root. Add a side of Cream Corn Brulee – my friend ordered a second! “Choose Your Own” Salad menu: select (1) of three greens; six proteins (individually priced); select (6) of eleven veggies, four cheeses, six garnishes; add avocado, sugared pecans (additional charge); six homemade dressings.

Located just outside the movie theatre…perfect for dinner and a movie night!

Ida Thai, Lake Park Blvd, Carolina Beach. Takeout 910 458-8136 . Not much to look at (true shabby chic). but fresh, authentic, made-to-order Thai Cuisine. Don’t dine in if you’re in a hurry. Chef will accomodate most dietary restrictions if asked. All house prepared soups are excellent- beyond expectations. Love their Chicken Satay Appetizer paired with Nam Sod Salad. Veggie Medley Sautee is another favorite. Only complaint is their water. “The Island” – as the locals call it – has terrible tap water which they serve at Ida Thai.

  8. Jen

Amy seems to be very hurt by Spanky’s. WE do what WE do very well, and many other restaurants on the OBX do a very good job at what THEY do. It is surely not an all inclusive list. Spanky’s menu is very comprehensive and has much more on it that most people know. Hey, we don’t have the ambience of fine dining and order at your table, strike against us there, but everything is fresh, and cooked to order. We aren’t for everyone, we know that. If your looking for table service and fancy plates you got the wrong place. If your looking for good food, cooked to order at a good price, and fairly fast then you’ve come to the right place. We are an old fashioned place. If something isn’t right fix it, if you don’t like something let us know. We’re here to do the best job possible. There’s more to us than hotdogs!!

Tupelo Honey in South Charlotte off South Blvd is AMAZING Southern cuisine with a side of class

  10. Lura

Tupelo Honey Cafe originated in Asheville, NC. Their Charlotte Street location opened in 2000. Other locations followed (including the one in Charlotte), and more are planned.
